Calling All Wayne County High School Students!

The 2026 Charles T. Gibson Public Health Essay Contest is now open! This is your chance to share your ideas, make an impact in your community, and earn scholarship money.

Prizes Include:
🥇 1st Place — $1,000 Scholarship + $75 Gift Card
🥈 2nd Place — $500 Scholarship + $50 Gift Card
🥉 3rd Place — $300 Scholarship + $50 Gift Card

Students are asked to write a short essay about solutions to a public health issue impacting Wayne County and create a 5-slide PowerPoint summarizing their ideas. Additional information and QR code are available below.

This will be a two part session including a 30 minute educational session discussing different types of car seats and safety measures for children as they grow, followed by a Certified Passenger Safety Technician installing a new, age and weight appropriate car seat for your child. As we wrap up Public Health Week, we want to take a moment to reflect on an incredible week of fun, teamwork, and appreciation for the many roles that help keep our community healthy.

Today, we are proud to highlight the remaining teams that play a critical role in protecting and promoting public health every day:

- Nursing team’s
- Environmental Health Team’s

These individuals work behind the scenes and on the front line to ensure our community stays safe and healthy. Public health is truly a team effort, and we are proud to celebrate the people who make it possible.

Public Health Week Day 4

Another great day celebrating National Public Health Week and the amazing people who help promote and protect the health of our community every single day!

Today’s fun included:
- Trashcan Basketball
- Cup Stacking
- Human Foosball

We’re also proud to highlight several teams whose work makes a meaningful difference in our community: WIC, Health Education, Health Director, Administration, Facility Services and Security.

Each of these individuals play a vital role in strengthening public health and supporting the well-being of Wayne County residents. We are grateful for their dedication and commitment to serving our community.

Public Health Week Day 3

We're halfway through National Public Health Week, and it has already been an incredible time celebrating the work we do and the people who make it happen every day!

So far, staff have enjoyed:
Human Foosball - teamwork, laughs, and a little friendly competition
Bingocize - staying active while having fun
Trivia - testing our public health knowledge and learning something new along the way

These activities, along with meals, are more than just fun; they're chances for us to connect, recharge, and celebrate the important role public health plays in our community.

We look forward to even more engagement and celebration as the week continues. A huge thank you to everyone who has participated and helped make this week special.

Join us in Celebrating National Public Health Week, April 6 - 12, 2026

Ready. Set. Action! is this year’s theme. As we celebrate, take a moment to recognize how public health has improved our daily lives, safeguarded our families, expanded our life spans, and strengthened our communities. This week is also a chance to honor the public health workers who show up for us every day and to advocate for policies and practices that promote good health for all.

To start off the week we would like to spotlight our Care Management for At-Risk Children (CMARC) and Care Management for High-Risk Pregnancies (CMHRP) teams.
