“You’re Still Breastfeeding?”

If you’ve heard this question before, you’re not alone.

👶 Breastfeeding past infancy is normal.
🌎 The global average weaning age? Between 2 and 4 years.
💪 Extended breastfeeding continues to support immunity, brain growth, and bonding.

It’s not “weird.”
It’s not “too old.”
It’s biologically normal.

So if you’re still nursing your toddler, preschooler, or beyond—you’re doing something powerful and natural. 💗

Your journey, your timeline.

Today my 13-year-old asked me to play a game of Gin Rummy.

At first, I said no.

I had too many things to get done. You know… that mental to-do list that never seems to end—dishes, laundry, messages to reply to, a million little tasks calling my name.

But then I looked at him… and I changed my mind.

We sat down for just one game. Five minutes, maybe ten. And in that small pocket of time, we laughed, we talked, we connected.

I’m learning that being intentional with my kids doesn’t have to mean clearing the whole day. Sometimes, it just means saying yes to the moment in front of me.

Here’s to more five-minute connections and fewer missed chances. 💛

You know what helps more moms breastfeed successfully?

👐 Community.
👩‍⚕️ Access to lactation care.
🏡 Family support.
🤱 Policies that protect time to nurse & pump.

If we want to see more breastfeeding success, we can’t just tell moms to “try harder.”

We have to create systems that actually support them.

We talk a lot about benefits for babies—but what about for moms?

💖 Breastfeeding lowers your risk of:
• Breast cancer
• Ovarian cancer
• Type 2 diabetes
• High blood pressure
• Postpartum bleeding

And bonus:
Breastfeeding releases oxytocin, helping you feel calmer, bonded, and more connected. 🌿

What does breastfeeding really look like?
It’s not always serene nursing photos and warm snuggles.

Sometimes it’s:
⏰ Cluster feeds that last all night
💧 Leaking through shirts
💺 Crying in the backseat while you try to latch
🧪 EP’ing around the clock
😮‍💨 Fighting through thrush, clogs, or supply dips

If it’s messy and hard—you’re not doing it wrong.
You’re doing it real.

Dear New Mama…

To the mama just starting out:
Yes, breastfeeding can feel like a full-time job.
Yes, your ni***es might hurt.
Yes, you might wonder if baby’s getting enough.
And yes—it does get easier.

Seek support. Take breaks. Hydrate.
You are not alone in this.

Every drop counts.
Every cuddle matters.
Every moment is a gift. 💛

It’s not all or nothing!

Breastfeeding isn’t a pass/fail test.

Whether you nurse for:
🕐 3 days
📆 3 months
🍼 or supplement with formula

You’re still giving your baby something incredibly valuable.

Let’s release the pressure of perfection.
You’re a good mom. Period. 🤍

Breastmilk isn’t static. It’s dynamic, intelligent, alive.

🧬 It changes from feed to feed.
🌡️ Adjusts temperature to regulate baby’s body.
💦 Offers hydration and immune protection.
🔬 Contains stem cells, hormones, antibodies, and enzymes.

What other food on Earth can do that?

It’s not magic. It’s biology at its most brilliant.
Let’s stop downplaying what human milk can do. 💥

Ever heard of the fear tension pain cycle?
When you’re scared ➡️, your body tenses up ⬇️ That tension makes labor hurt ⬅️ more which makes you even more scared ⬆️. It’s a tough loop to be stuck in.

The good news? You can break it. 🙌

Happy Mother’s Day to the fiercest force on Earth: MOTHERS.
Whether you became a mother through birth, adoption, or love—you are the heartbeat of your home and the world.

As a doula, I’ve seen the incredible strength, grace, and power mothers carry. Today, let’s celebrate that with some awe-inspiring facts about mamas:

Did you know…
• A mother’s body literally grows a new organ (the placenta) during pregnancy—then safely releases it when its job is done.
• Mothers have been found to experience cellular changes during childbirth, with some fetal cells staying in a mother’s body for decades—healing and supporting her from the inside.
• The maternal brain actually restructures itself after birth—making moms more emotionally attuned and alert to their baby’s needs.
• Mothers can regulate a newborn’s temperature, heart rate, and stress levels just by holding them skin-to-skin. That’s not magic—it’s biology.
• Oxytocin, the “love hormone,” released during labor and breastfeeding, literally rewires the brain for connection and compassion.

Today, and every day, may we honor the unseen labor, the deep wisdom, and the unmatched resilience of mothers.

To every mama I’ve walked beside in birth, postpartum, and beyond—you are a miracle in motion.
