It is with great sorrow that we share with you the passing of our oldest brother, Mr. Lonnie Eugene (Pocketbook) Holloway Jr. (GHS Class of 1972). Lonnie peacefully departed this earthly life early this morning, May 6, 2022.

A celebration of life graveside service, with military honors, will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 12 noon – Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Rd., Goldsboro, NC. Pastor Anthony Rose, Daniels Chapel of Goldsboro, Officiant/Eulogist. The processional will leave the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. to journey to the cemetery for the service.

A public visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Bishop Lonnie E. Holloway Sr. Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. Henrietta Duterte was the first female undertaker in the United States of America. She became an undertaker in 1858 after her husband, a coffin maker died. Born free Henrietta often hid slaves in coffins to ensure their safe passage through the City of Philadelphia. Her undertaking business became one of the most successful businesses in Philadelphia burying both blacks & whites. She is now interred in Philadelphia's Eden Cemetery, the oldest black-owned cemetery in America!
