We’re proud to share that we have once again been accredited by the American College of Cardiology as a Chest Pain Center!

So what does this mean?

It means we’ve demonstrated consistent, high-quality processes across the full continuum of care — from the moment a patient arrives through diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up — guided by evidence-based standards and a roadmap for sustained excellence.

For our community, it means continued access to trusted, nationally recognized heart care close to home — and there’s no better way to close out Heart Month than by celebrating the team who makes it all possible. ❤️

In an incredible 24-hour effort, UNC Health Wayne dispersed teammates throughout the City of Goldsboro, County of Wayne, Wayne County Public Schools, local businesses, organizations, and our very own hospital to train over 1,600 people in hands-only CPR. Educating everyone from ages 7-85, our team gave it all they had in an effort to reach a world record alongside other participating counties! Together, we were not just aiming for a world record—30,000 trained in 24 hours—but building a stronger, life-saving community right here in Wayne County.

We were honored to receive a special thank-you from Doug McGrath, with NC Freedom Fest, in recognition of being a top sponsor and having our Emergency Management team on site throughout the event to help ensure attendee safety, providing medical support and evaluating guests if care was needed.

As a meaningful gesture, UNC Health Wayne was presented with a flag flown aboard an F-15E Strike Eagle during the Freedom Fest flyover — a powerful symbol of service, sacrifice, and community pride.

Our incredible Food & Nutrition Services team hosted a special Valentine’s dinner for our teammates — a small way to say thank you to the people who show up for our patients and each other every single day.

Between busy shifts and caring for our community, it was a chance to slow down, share a meal, and celebrate the heart behind healthcare.

From diagnostics and imaging to interventional procedures, rehab, education, and everything in between, cardiovascular care covers so much more than most people realize. It takes a highly skilled, deeply compassionate team working behind the scenes and at the bedside to keep our operations running smoothly and our community’s heart health a top priority.

Often working behind the scenes, perianesthesia nurses are a steady presence for patients and families—providing comfort, vigilance, and clinical excellence when it matters most. Their attention to detail and rapid response are essential to patient safety and recovery across our hospital.

Today we’re wearing red ❤️

Wear Red Day raises awareness about heart disease, the leading cause of death for women in the United States. It is a reminder that heart disease can look different in women and the warning signs are not always what people expect.

By wearing red, we are standing together to support heart health education, encourage prevention, and empower our community to know their numbers including blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar. Prevention starts with awareness.

Small choices can make a big impact. Move your body. Eat balanced meals. Schedule your checkups. Have the conversations.

Heart health matters today and every day.

Preparing for the unexpected is a critical part of caring for our community. Recently, our Emergency Department partnered with Wayne County EMS and ECU Health to participate in a pediatric trauma drill designed to strengthen coordination, communication, and response during high-stakes situations involving children.
While drills may not reflect real-life scenarios, they play an essential role in helping teams practice protocols, identify opportunities for improvement, and build confidence across agencies. These exercises ensure that when real emergencies happen, our teams are ready to act quickly, safely, and effectively for all of our patients.
Teamwork, preparation, and continual training help us deliver the best possible care—when it matters most.

With the Super Bowl right around the corner, we brought that football spirit to UNC Health Wayne by hosting hosting our annual Chili Cook-Off prepared by our Food and Nutrition’s cooking team. Teammates and members of the public were invited to taste each entry and vote on their favorites, and many showed their team pride by wearing football jerseys. Congratulations and a big shout-out to Torrey West for winning with his beef and black bean chili!
