Due to a significant increase in flu and respiratory illnesses, our Emergency Department is currently experiencing very high patient volumes.

To help create space and ensure the safety of our patients, visitors, and teammates, we are temporarily limiting visitation in the Emergency Department to one visitor per patient. Exceptions for patients 18 and under.

Our current visitor restrictions will be maintained throughout the entire hospital:

• Temporary visitor restrictions for children 12 and under.
• Masks are required for teammates providing direct patient care.
• Masks are required in the Emergency Department waiting room.
• Masking is strongly encouraged in all other areas of the hospital.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as our care teams work hard to serve our community during this busy season. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.

We were proud to welcome nursing students from the University of Mount Olive to UNC Health Wayne as we continue to strengthen our growing partnership. Students had the opportunity to tour our hospital, connect with hospital leaders, and learn more about what a future at UNC Health Wayne would look like.

This partnership is already making an impact, with several UMO students committing to begin their nursing careers with us and participate in our Scholars Program, along with continued collaboration on new nursing scholarship opportunities. We’re excited to invest in local nursing students and support them as they grow, learn, and serve our community.

This year’s UNC Health Wayne Holiday cards were extra special!

Featuring artwork from talented students across Wayne County, these cards were shared with patients, teammates, and community members. Through our continued partnership with Wayne County Public Schools, the winning art departments will receive $1,000.

From Food & Nutrition and Environmental Services to Materials Management and the Lab, participants got an inside look at just how much happens behind the scenes in a hospital—and how many departments work together to support care in just one patient room.

Due to increased respiratory virus activity in our community, UNC Health Wayne has implemented temporary respiratory virus precautions, for the safety of our patients, visitors, and teammates.

On December 10, UNC Health Wayne conducted a scheduled Ebola Exercise alongside state and local partners to ensure our teams remain fully prepared to respond to high-risk situations. This was only an exercise, but the commitment, coordination, and professionalism on display were very real.

Our teams performed exceptionally well, and this training reinforced the strength of collaboration across our organization and community. A sincere thank you to Wayne County EMS, 911 Operators, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, and all of our partners who helped make this exercise a success.

We’re also incredibly proud of our Emergency Department, Environmental Services, Infection Prevention, Engineering, Lab, and the many other departments who played a critical role. Together, we continue strengthening preparedness so we can provide Quality Health Care, Close to Home—no matter the situation.

This season, we shared a little extra cheer with free breakfast and lunch, served with smiles by our directors. From warm meals to warm moments, it was a simple way to say thank you for all the hard work, dedication, and heart our teammates bring every day.

Today we celebrate and thank Dr. David Hill for seven years of dedicated service as a teammate at UNC Health Wayne as he prepares for his next chapter. Over his time here, Dr. Hill made a lasting impact on our patients, our providers, and our organization through his leadership, advocacy, and commitment to doing what is right.

During his time at UNC Health Wayne, Dr. Hill served in key leadership roles on the Medical Executive Committee, including Secretary Treasurer in 2023, Vice President in 2024, and President in 2025. He also provided thoughtful leadership for the Ethics Committee, helping guide important conversations with integrity and compassion.

A pediatrician and communicator, Dr. Hill is known for bringing warmth, humor, and clarity to every setting, from the exam room to the boardroom. He has been featured on national media outlets including CNN and The New York Times, where he has helped make complex topics in child health more accessible to the public.

Thank you, Dr. Hill, for the leadership, heart, and dedication you brought to UNC Health Wayne. We are grateful for all you have given here and wish you the very best as you begin this next chapter.

UNC Health Wayne hosted an Eat & Greet bringing together hospital teams and local primary care offices. Taking time to connect and build relationships beyond our walls helps strengthen teamwork and supports better care for our community.
