Banton-Smith Center would like to offer a class using railroad spikes later this fall. I would like CVBG members to bring anything they have made using a spike so we can get some pictures and ideas for the class project(s). Bring your item to the September 13 meeting. Plan B, send me your spike pics to bsc@cvbg.org and maybe we can use your item or pic in the class promotion. Plan C, the most important part, is for YOU to help teach the class.
Ideas so far are of course, a knife, but other ideas would be a wall hook, garden hoe or claw, steak turner, lizard, bottle opener, fredericks cross. Bruce Manson's "LOVE" is pretty cool and that has a possibility too. I want ideas so we can pick out a few potential class projects. Pinterest and Google searches turn up lots of ideas, but lets see what we can come up with that will avoid welding time as part of the project as we just don't have the facilities to do a lot of this here at the center.
If we can come up with some cool ideas, maybe we could make it a "2" day class event for a more detailed project.

Randy Cox copper demo/instruction at CVBG July 12.
Don't miss the chance to learn the fundamentals of the ancient art of chasing and raising in copper! Randy Cox, a Master of the craft, will introduce us to the basic techniques & tools to create distinctive, decorative, and functional art.
Banton-Smith Center for Blacksmith & Metal Arts, 2748 Dogtown Road, Goochland, VA 23063. Starting promptly at 9 AM.
This demonstration is open to the public for viewing. If you want to attend the class instruction portion, it is open to CVBG members first. If we have any spaces left, we open it up for others.
There is a materials fee around $20-25 to cover the cost of the copper and tooling you would use if you are taking the class.
Space is extremely limited.
Advanced training will also be given to those who took the intro class last year.
