💜 Powerful Presentation on Supporting Survivors 💜

Today, Andrea Ahonen joined us to share the impactful work of GoochlandCares, highlighting its Sexual & Domestic Violence (SDV) Program—one of twelve vital services supporting residents of Goochland County.

Program Manager/Case Manager AC Tierney and Advocate Thavoeun Fulmer provided an informative overview of the program’s history, team structure, services, and outcomes. They educated attendees on domestic violence and sexual assault, explored myths vs. facts, explained power and control dynamics, types of abuse, and the cycle of abuse, and helped us understand why survivors may not leave abusive relationships.

We also learned how we can help:
✔️ Believe and support survivors
✔️ Offer resources and encouragement
✔️ Assist with safety planning
✔️ Promote self-care

The SDV Program provides free and confidential services to survivors in Goochland County. To refer someone, call 804-980-6267 or email sdv@goochlandcares.org.

Andrea concluded by sharing Goochland Cares’ 2025 achievements, financial overview, and future plans for growth to meet increasing community needs.

The Goochland County Sheriff's Office showed up and showed out for the Food Pantry this ! They delivered a total of 4,620 pounds of food that deputies and staff collected over the past two weeks and beat their record from last year!

A lovely morning of collaboration during our Health Fair for clients with Virginia Department of Health, Chickahominy Health District, Humana, Goochland Pet Lovers, GC volunteers, and our in-house dietician! Sharing more about our "Food as Medicine" and other ways to stay healthy!

Because of the support & food donations we received over the holidays, our team was ready when crisis hit. When ice built up around the county, we were able to:

1. Create “snow bags” with extra food for families who may not have been able to get to the building

2. Coordinate with Goochland Fire & Rescue for temporary food deliveries to families stuck in their houses

3. Re-open early with limited hours to provide food, serving 42 families in just 4 hours on the first day back

4. Temporarily welcome shoppers on a Saturday

As the snow melts, thank you for being there when your neighbors need you the most!
