Happy tax day! Our volunteer Tax Preparation program helped provide over 200 working families with the Earned Income Tax Credit this year! Amber (staff) and board member Steve were the program leads, coordinating volunteers and clients to get money back to people who need it most!

The Easter Bunny paid a visit to GoochlandCares, in the form of treats from Elpis Christian Church and From the Heart Stitchers! The children in our programs had big smiles this week. As a reminder, GoochlandCares is closed from 4/4 to 4/6 for the holiday.

The dental student volunteers from VCU Dentistry were hard at work this month, learning from the staff in Dental Clinic! Here, they can work with our volunteer dentists to learn from complex dental cases and help clients who may not have had oral care in many years

March was a Capital One-filled month! We had volunteers working in the building (three times) and creating hygiene kits at their offices (two times). Creating meaningful change, one group at a time!

Our Story

GoochlandCares is OPEN M-F during COVID-19 Crisis with the following services:

FOOD PANTRY - OPEN

We are offering online and phone pre-ordering and contact-free, curbside grocery pick-up. The Food Pantry is open and continues to need a steady stream of donations. Please visit our Amazon wishlist to make a donation of food from home!

MEDICAL CLINIC - OPEN

We are offering Tele-Medicine and when critical, curbside medical visits. Emergency dental care is also available. During this time, we have been successful in treating our patients’ chronic and minor illnesses - keeping them out of local ERs & reducing the risk of COVID-19 to our community.

Our priority is to protect staff, volunteers and clients. Following the Governor's announcement last week that dental clinics may open for non-emergency procedures, we are carefully planning how and when to open and look forward to seeing clients again in the future. In the meantime, thank you to the volunteer dentists who have seen our clients with emergencies in their own offices.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE - AVAILABLE

We continue to meet the increased need for financial assistance through our COVID-19 Emergency Fund. Those seeking help paying a bill can apply by phone. Donations to the COVID-19 Emergency Fund will provide direct relief for those in crisis.

SUPPORT and SAFETY - AVAILABLE

Case Management : We are making daily wellness calls to our most vulnerable clients. Again and again, our clients express tremendous appreciation for the ways GoochlandCares is helping them cope.

Sexual & Domestic Violence: We are caring for those in crisis by phone and facilitating emergency shelter when necessary.
