Goochland Powhatan Community Services is proud to partner with Powhatan County to bring these life-saving measures to the community. If you have questions regarding harm reduction or would like to learn more about this Mobile Outreach Program, reach out to Jordan Schellin at jschellin@powhatanva.gov or stop by Pathways Recovery Center to speak with one of our Certified Peer Support Specialists. Both Goochland Powhatan Community Services locations also offer harm reduction items to the public, free of charge.

Powhatan is also hosting free Naloxone training every Wednesday through the end of September.

What is SMART Family & Friends? SMART stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training. It’s a family support mutual aid group, but it is different from other 12-step family support programs. While participants all share a connection to a loved one (LO) with an addictive behavior, the focus of these meetings is NOT on their LO. Instead, participants focus on themselves and their goals, utilizing the cognitive therapy-based tools in Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT). Participants will develop more effective coping strategies and communication skills while maintaining balance in their lives.

SMART Family & Friends is not restricted to one type of addictive behavior. SMART participants have loved ones with a myriad of problematic behaviors.

We are currently offering SMART Family & Friends at Powhatan Pathways on Tuesdays at 5:00 PM, and Goochland Pathways on Thursdays at 5:00 PM.

On Friday, Pathways' Peer Support Specialist, Micheal Embrose, and Powhatan County Outreach Coordinator, Jordan Schellin, proudly represented Goochland Powhatan Community Services at Riverside Regional Jail's Re-entry Resource Fair. This important event connects incarcerated individuals with vital community resources and services, helping to support successful transitions and stronger futures after release. Partnerships like this make real change possible in our communities!
