Happy National Ice Cream Day 🍦 😋

Today is National Ice Cream Day. Ice cream gained popularity in the 18th century and soon the concept of ice cream socials followed. Hand-cranked ice cream makers were invented in the mid-19th century and quickly became a way for more people to indulge in the summertime delicacy. Ice cream socials were an opportunity to promote community events and celebrate social gatherings. Even after the availability of store-bought ice cream, the art of making one’s own ice cream remained a popular activity. Electric ice cream makers came on the scene in the 20th century and made making homemade ice cream easier than the hand-cranked version. Ice cream socials are still a tasty choice for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, graduations and other social gatherings.
