Can your eye get sunburned? Yes! It's called photokeratitis and essentially it's getting a sunburn on the surface of your eye. This can happen in most climates with strong sunlight, particularly when there are reflective surfaces such as white sand, water, or especially snow. One of the dangerous things about photokeratitis is that, like a normal sunburn, it can take hours before the symptoms appear. As a result, you might keep exposing your eyes to harmful UV rays even after the damage has begun, making the condition more severe. Wearing sunglasses that block 100% of UV light is important to help avoid this condition.

Pay Attention to Changes in Your Vision - Changes to eyesight tend to be gradual, which can make it harder to notice them initially. Any time you do notice a change, schedule an appointment with the eye doctor. The result could be as simple as an updated prescription or it could be the early diagnosis of a serious eye condition. However, symptoms like flashes of light, eye swelling or pain, red eyes, or a sudden increase in floaters merit an urgent trip to the eye doctor because they could indicate retinal detachment.

Taking care of contact lenses is a slightly more involved process. Contact lenses are medical devices that sit directly on the eye, so cleaning them is more about hygiene than maintenance. Here are the major points:
Make sure to only ever handle your contact lenses with freshly cleaned hands.
Never reuse contact lens solution for cleaning or storage. All it takes is one use to contaminate the solution!
Never use water on contact lenses (definitely never use spit!). All sources of freshwater contain microorganisms that you don’t want in your eyes.
Follow the packaging instructions for how frequently to replace your contacts and how long to wear them before taking them out.

Don’t cut corners on your contact lens care! Even if it saves you a little money in new bottles of contact lens solution, it could cost you an eye infection somewhere down the line. The trade-off isn’t worth it.
