Omaha local legend and longtime Home Instead friend Mary Maxwell brought her signature wit to our 2009 Convention—confusing the Archbishop for her ride, entering the car wash backwards, and rocking mismatched earrings like a pro. We absolutely LOVE her. 💚😂

When “let’s talk” feels like too much, start small.
In this episode of Caregiver Chats, Dr. Lakelyn sits down with Amy Friesen, eldercare expert and author of Breadcrumbs, to explore why families avoid planning conversations—and how to gently start them.

Amy shares why it's rarely a one-time talk, how professionals can help ease tension, and why sometimes the message lands better when it doesn’t come from you.

What if the best medicine for aging well... is friendship? 💚

David Troxel shares how a Home Instead Care Pro became a lifeline for his dad—not just helping around the house, but watching golf, cooking together, and bringing joy back into the day.

When Thao walks into the room, a veteran with advanced Parkinson’s — mostly nonverbal — lights up and says, “There’s my angel.”
Thao Nguyen, a Care Pro with Home Instead, doesn’t just show up. She brings music. She brings home-cooked Vietnamese meals. She brings peace of mind.

Originally from Vietnam, Thao cared for her grandmother and extended family from a young age. That lifelong devotion to elders followed her to the U.S., where a neighbor introduced her to caregiving.

One family loved her cooking so much, they stocked their pantry just so Thao could prepare her signature dishes. Another client requested her by name each week, just to hear her music in the hall.

“I treat them like my own parents,” Thao says. “I love them so much.”

Thank you, Thao, for reminding us that exceptional caregiving isn’t just noticed.

Let this story be a reminder: great care creates connection that lasts.

🌟 Caregiver of the Month May: Lucy 🌟
This month, we are proud to recognize Lucy, a longtime and deeply valued member of our caregiving family. With several years of dedicated service, Lucy has consistently demonstrated what it means to be a dependable, professional, and truly compassionate caregiver.
No matter the client or circumstance, Lucy brings her trademark warmth, patience, and expertise to every shift. Her adaptability, calm presence, and willingness to go the extra mile make her someone we know we can always count on. Whether she’s stepping in during a challenging situation or simply brightening a client’s day, Lucy handles every moment with grace and heart.
One of her clients and his wife recently shared:
“She is Super Duper—so caring! We love her, and she just does a good job.”
That simple, heartfelt praise captures what so many others have come to know about Lucy. Her presence brings peace of mind, her reliability builds trust, and her compassion makes a lasting impact.
Her longevity with our team speaks volumes, but it’s her daily actions—her consistency, her attentiveness, and the genuine love she pours into her work—that truly set her apart.
Thank you, Lucy, for the many years of exceptional service and for continuing to be a shining example of caregiving at its finest. We’re incredibly grateful to have you as part of our team!

Home Instead Senior Care 831 is proudly serving Seniors throughout Goodyear, AZ and our surrounding communities.

Blair joined Home Instead in June of 1998. Her love and passion for seniors led her to pursue a degree in Gerontology while working for Home Instead Senior Care. She has had the honor and privilege to help so many families with the various needs that arise during the journey of the aging process and navigating the senior care options. Home Instead Senior Care allows her to make a difference everyday, whether its helping a family in crisis or a community care partner we serve. Blair leads a team of caring individuals who help families with the many issues that involved caring for your loved ones. As an advocate and resource for families, Blair is always pursuing education and opportunities to exceed the growing needs within our senior care community.

Anthony is originally from Northern California where he was a district manager for a well-known distribution company located in Sacramento. Working for this company allowed him to learn the entire region and how to operate a team from every level. This is where he gained the most experience managing and developing successful sales individuals who exceeded their goals personally and professionally. Anthony is outgoing, focused on excellent customer service, honest, and caring. He has had the ability to watch his wife Blair provide amazing service to seniors and their families throughout their community for the past 15 years with Home Instead Senior Care. Anthony’s desire to help others came naturally, he grew up watching his Mother being the primary care provider for his grandparents and great grandparents. She worked hard to make sure they were able to stay in their own homes. After watching his Mother battle cancer and seeing the need for care with his uncle with Parkinson’s, the passion and dedication from Blair’s resources truly at work, he realized it was time to give back. After pursuing his interest in helping seniors, an opportunity in Goodyear, AZ with Home Instead Senior Care became available. Anthony and Blair packed up the family and moved to Goodyear, AZ now closer to family and friends. Anthony is dedicated to helping Seniors and their families throughout the Southwest Valley. He enjoys sports and watching his kids grow into amazing individuals.
