WAVES is proud to introduce our Keynote Speaker, Scott Nevers , who will present our Keynote address, "Surviving Cardiac Arrest". This presentation will share a detailed story of a survivor of
cardiac arrest. Scott Nevers is a Mainer who as at only 27 years old suffered sudden cardiac arrest, with no warning, no risk factors, during a sports event. He was playing in a men’s softball game, and suddenly collapsed on the field. With no AED on site, he was lucky enough that an ambulance was close by. The EMS team worked on Scott for over 35 minutes and delivered over 20 shocks in a story that no one would ever forget. His captivating story will illustrate just how important what we do in EMS is, and how one survivor’s story can make a difference. Since his survival, Scott has dedicated his life to promoting CPR and AED placement and training. Because if one life is saved, it makes all the difference in the world!

Paul Davidson got to go home from MMC with his wife Tuesday after spending 34 days in the hospital. Davidson went into cardiac arrest in the MMC Emergency Department and was eventually put on the ECMO life support system, saving his life.

“Paul’s recovery was nothing less than odds-defying and is a testament to the exemplary multidisciplinary care that the MMC ECMO and Critical Care teams provide,” said Walter DeNino, MD, a member of Davidson’s surgical team, including John Fallon, MD, and Bram Geller, MD.
