Doulas are professionals trained to provide non-medical support & guidance during pregnancy, birth, & the postpartum period.
My goal as your doula is to help you experience a safe & positive birth. As your advocate and part of your support team, I will strive so that you have an empowering birth.
If you are unsure of how you'll benefit from a doula, here are some reasons to consider hiring one.
💚 Informational Support: Doulas can provide education to help parents make informed decisions.
💚 Emotional Support: I cannot highlight enough the impact a doula has on the birthing person's emotional state. Doulas help mother's stay calm & focused, reducing stress and anxiety.
💚 Physical Support: Doulas help the birthing person with their desired comfort measures which can include; massage, acupressure, & position changes.
💚 Partner Support: Doulas help involve the partner and educate them in childbirth as well as caring for their partner.
💚 Breastfeeding Support: Doulas can provide guidance and support with lactation. Helping ensure that mothers who wish to breastfeed are able to successfully.
💚 Postpartum Support: Doulas can help have a faster recovery after childbirth through feeding advice & guidance, light housekeeping, and sometimes meal prepping.
💚 Higher Satisfaction: Doulas provide continual support through pregnancy, childbirth and usually for the first 6 weeks postpartum. With their support, birthing people are able to have positive and empowering birth experiences.
💚 Reduced Interventions: The continual support and presence of a doula can help reduce the use of unwanted medical interventions. Studies show lower rates of c-sections, epidurals, forceps, and other interventions when doulas are present during labor and childbirth.
💚 Experience & Advocacy: Doulas advocate for mothers and parents helping ensure that their birth preferences are heard and met by the medical team. They help with some of the medical lingo used that parents might be unsure of, as well as offering a reassuring presence with their extensive experience in many birthing scenarios.
