An independent midwifery practice providing comprehensive care in Goshen, Indiana. She has been a preceptor to student nurse midwives since 2015.

Nurse Midwife Betsy partners with women for thoughtful healthcare throughout their lives. Core values and guiding principles include:

Betsy McCanse, CNM, has been in the “birth world” since 2003. She started her journey as a childbirth educator teaching Bradley classes, became certified as a doula through DONA, Int in 2005, and then started her trek to become a Certified Nurse Midwife through the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has been practicing as a midwife in the Goshen area since 2013, providing full-scope midwifery care for women across their reproductive lifespans. Over the years she has served women at Goshen Birth Center, Goshen Hospital, Blessed Beginnings Care Center and at homes. She has guided over 600 babies and has provided labor support to those families and many others whose babies have been caught by students or ended up with cesareans. Additionally, Betsy has taken a course in Mayan Abdominal Massage Self-Care, and has certifications in K-taping for pregnancy/postpartum and clinical homeopathy. She is passionate about holding the space for women, to enable birth to be an empowering experience, and in taking part in shared decision making in healthcare throughout women’s lives. She finds year-round joy in blues and swing dancing, and tent camping in the warm months.

Birthworker gathering in May - open to all whose role includes supporting pregnant. laboring or postpartum women: midwives, doulas, nurses, OBs, PTs, chiros, massage therapists, dieticians, counselors - everyone in the birth community. This is a time to connect, share and learn.

This time we will hear about babywearing from a certifed babywearing educator, with particular information for those of us who support moms but are not ourselves experts.

Elmer and Stephanie (Rosales) Bontrager of Goshen are happy to announce the homebirth of daughter Eloise Reign Bontrager. Eloise was born on February 20, 2026, at 4:00am. She weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces. Stephanie was calm and collected in pregnancy and birth. Elmer was a great support. Congratulations, Bontrager family!

Alec & Megan (Fuhrman) Musser of Goshen are happy to announce the homebirth of Gavin Alec Musser. Gavin was born on February 5, 2026 at 7:13 am. He weighed 9 pounds, 8 ounces and was 21 inches long. He joins big sister Adelaide. Megan was so chill throughout pregnancy and birth, that even though she couldn't use her bed for birth due to a sleepy soon-to-be-older-sister, she rolled with it and had an amazing birth elsewhere in the house. It was a delight to be with this family again as they grow! Congratulations, Musser family!

Esmeralda (Rios) and Zachary Garrett of South Bend are pleased to announce the homebirth of Leon Silvestre Garrett. Leon was born on January 25, 2026 at 10:55pm, weighing 6 pounds, 1.7 ounces and was 20 inches long. Esmeralda was in control throughout, aided by Zach's calm presence. Nina Magnolia takes on the role of big sister welcoming Leon to the family. Congratulations, Garrett family!

Gary and Doretta (Miller) Chupp of Elkhart are pleased to announce the birth of daughter Emma Ruth on January 27, 2026. She was born at DuPont Hospital at 10:01 am, weighing 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 21.25 inches long. Doretta worked hard and surrounded herself with great resources, and was able to go with the flow of the twists and turns of labor. Congratulations, Chupp family!

Tannor and Karonna (Hoover) Pletcher of Goshen are pleased to announce the birth of son Grady Wells Pletcher at Blessed Beginnings Care Center. He was born on January 23, 2026 at 7:30pm. He weighed 8 pounds and was 20 inches long. Karonna was determined throughout the day as she progressed through labor, and she did excellent at staying hydrated. Congratulations, Pletcher family!

Myron and Karen Bontrager of New Paris are happy to announce the birth of daughter Molly Claire Bontrager on January 28, 2026 at Blessed Beginnings Care Center. She was born at 10:52am, weighing 8 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 21 inches long. Karen was very down to earth through her pregnancy, and remained so even when the birth held some excitement. It was a pleasure being with this family again for another baby. Congratulations, Bontrager family!
