Gothenburg Health is a Critical Access Hospital and Rural Health Clinic serving the needs of Gothenburg and the surrounding area. The existing building was built in 1969 with a 3.5 million-dollar addition and renovation project completed in 2004 to provide up-to-date medical care in our service area. In 2014 Gothenburg Health broke ground on a 29.5 million-dollar renovation and expansion that started with a state-of-the-art surgical expansion. The new construction includes a brand-new patient wing, prominent main entry, clinical expansion and advanced imaging suite. Gothenburg Health is a non-profit healthcare facility governed by a publicly elected board of directors. Gothenburg Health believes strongly in the philosophy of investing in the future; preparing for the future with progressive technology aimed to provide our patient population with the healthcare services they deserve while providing a strong and healthy long-term future for Gothenburg Health. Anne Seaman of Cozad shares her journey with duodenal cancer and the compassionate care she receives at Gothenburg Health. Many have heard the heartbreaking news of the small plane crash north of Kearney on Wednesday night. Among the lives lost was Dr. Mark Meyer, a beloved orthopedic surgeon who served Gothenburg Memorial Hospital for many years.

Dr. Meyer was a cornerstone of our medical community during a time when visiting specialists were few and far between, according to Deb Hecox, RN. His dedication ensured that our patients received expert care close to home. Though he last practiced here over a decade ago, his impact continues to be felt by the many patients whose lives he touched, she said.

Deb shared that those who knew Dr. Meyer will remember his big, friendly personality—a warmth that made him not only a skilled physician but also a comforting presence to those in need.

Gothenburg Health honors Dr. Meyer’s life, his service, and the lasting mark he left on Gothenburg. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and all affected by this tragic loss.
