Portal, inc is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) agency that has been in continuous operation serving adult citizens with developmental disabilities since 1965. Portal has a proud history of advocating for and supporting individuals primarily from Ozaukee and surrounding counties. Today is a bittersweet day at Portal as we celebrate Jill’s retirement.

After 11 years, 3 months, and 16 days of dedication, commitment, and heart, Jill is officially beginning a well-earned new chapter. Her time at Portal has been marked by incredible skill, deep knowledge, and a spirit that touched everyone around her. Jill’s presence, wisdom, and care have made a lasting impact, and her contributions will be truly missed.

While we will miss her greatly, we are so excited for Jill as she steps into a future filled with travel, new adventures, and time to enjoy all the things she loves. She has more than earned this moment.

Some days at Portal aren’t about big events or celebrations — they’re about simple, meaningful moments.

Today was one of those days. With the cold outside, many chose to stay in, enjoying a warm, cozy day together. Inside, you could find smiles being shared, kind words exchanged, and moments of connection that make Portal feel like home.

I was lucky enough to catch a few of those moments — genuine smiles, friendly greetings, and heartfelt well wishes that remind us why this place means so much.

It’s in these everyday moments that the true spirit of Portal shines. A smile, a laugh, a sense of belonging — these are the things that matter most. Days like today may seem quiet, but they are full of warmth, care, and community.

🎨✨ Creativity is blooming in our Art Class at Portal!✨🎨

Take a look at these beautiful works of art created by our talented participants! From dreamy winter skies to bold colors and expressive brushstrokes, each piece reflects imagination, creativity, and individuality. Art class is more than painting — it’s about self-expression, confidence, and joy, and these smiles say it all. 💙

We’re also excited to share that we have a new Art Teacher, Serena, who brings a wealth of artistic experience and passion to our program. Serena has already been inspiring our participants to explore new techniques, experiment with color, and take pride in their creations. Her enthusiasm and creativity are making art class a favorite for many!

Art continues to be a meaningful way for our participants to express themselves, relax, and connect with one another. We are so proud of the creativity and effort that goes into every piece.

Some goodbyes are especially hard — and Thursday was one of those days at Portal.

Thursday marked Olivia’s last day with us, as she prepares to begin a new chapter in a much warmer climate out of state. While we are excited for her and the adventures that await, saying goodbye was not easy. Our Portal family came together to celebrate Olivia, sharing laughter, memories, and plenty of happy tears along with deeply heartfelt moments.

Olivia has been such a meaningful part of Portal, and her kindness, compassion, and genuine care for others have left a lasting impact on everyone she worked with and supported. The love in the room during her celebration said it all — she will be deeply missed.

As she takes this next step, we send Olivia off with full hearts and best wishes. May her days ahead be filled with sunshine, new experiences, and everything she hopes for.

We would like to share both gratitude and a touch of sadness as we announce the retirement of Chris Albers, our Accounting Assistant, after 37 years of dedicated service to Portal.

Chris’s commitment, professionalism, and steady presence have been a constant at Portal for nearly four decades. Her contributions go far beyond numbers and reports — she has been a trusted colleague, a reliable support to so many, and an integral part of the foundation that helps Portal serve our community every day.

It is impossible to fully capture how much Chris has meant to Portal, and how deeply she will be missed. While we are sad to see her go, we are incredibly grateful for her years of service and the lasting mark she leaves behind.

Due to the extreme weather outlook for our area, Portal has made the decision to close tomorrow (Friday, January 23rd) to ensure the safety of our participants, staff, and families.

We plan to reopen on Monday, January 26.

❄️☃️ When it’s cold outside, we make our own snowflakes inside! ☃️❄️

With the chilly weather keeping us indoors, our creative (and delicious!) activity yesterday at Portal was making edible snowflakes — and it was a big hit! Using marshmallows and toothpicks, our crafty team got busy designing one-of-a-kind snowflakes that were just as fun to build as they were to admire… and maybe snack on 😄🍬

The best part? The participant smiles. Watching everyone laugh, create, and proudly show off their snowy masterpieces filled the room with joy and warmth — no winter coats required! 💙

Moments like these remind us that creativity, connection, and a little sweetness go a long way. Thank you to our amazing team for turning a cold day into a memorable one!
