Portal, inc is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) agency that has been in continuous operation serving adult citizens with developmental disabilities since 1965. Portal has a proud history of advocating for and supporting individuals primarily from Ozaukee and surrounding counties. Today, Portal serves more than 200 people with disabilities, providing the supports and experiences to life more fulfilling and meaningful lives.

Our talented participants have been busy, and their artistic abilities are truly unparalleled. Today’s peek: layered versions of the bottom of the ocean, iridescent glass, nature-inspired panels, and delicate raised textures. Look at those details—clean cuts, bold color choices, and gorgeous textures that shine in every piece. 😍

Today was all about community time—and our participants were loving it! From cheering each other on at the park to swapping stories at local cafés and saying hi to our favorite shop owners, we’re out and about building connections.

At Portal, our programs are designed to make these moments happen: practicing real-world skills, volunteering with neighborhood partners, exploring local spots, and meeting the people who make our community special. We don’t just visit—we engage. Our participants lead the way, and the community shows up with big smiles right back. 💙

Shine alert from the Portal glass studio! ✨

This week our team of glass pros—staff and participants side-by-side—crafted the sweetest votive holders, sparkling Christmas trees, and the cutest little deer. Every piece started with a conversation, a sketch, and a whole lot of encouragement. The best part? Watching each participant’s style come to life in glass. 💙

Huge cheers to our crew for the focus, patience, and creativity it takes to cut, shape, and fire these artistic pieces. We had an amazing time working together and celebrating every “wow!” moment along the way.

🐾🚓 Special Visitors at Portal! 🚓🐾

On Monday we had an awesome visit from Officer Melissa Brandt and her K9 Maverick Grafton, WI PD! We learned all about how they work together to keep our community safe.

👏 What we learned:

• Maverick is a German Shepherd trained in narcotics detection, tracking, and apprehension.
• Officer Brandt answered all our questions and even demonstrated a few of Maverick’s commands.
• Maverick is not only skilled—he’s handsome, patient, and super friendly. He let everyone say hello and give some well-earned pets!

A huge thank you to Officer Brandt and Maverick for the important work they do—and for spending time with us at Portal. We’re grateful for our partners in public safety! 💙
