Her award was presented for her outstanding community outreach work and her life saving efforts of one of our own on April 23, 2025. Please see nomination submission below:
"Nikki Underwood received recognition of excellence by the West Virginia Department of Health on May 12, 2025, as a vaccine champion. This well-deserved honor is a testament to Nikki's tireless dedication, compassion, and service to our community. Thanks to her leadership and commitment, countless vaccine clinics have been successfully carried out across the county - helping to keep families, friends, and neighbors safe. Nikki has led over 60 mobile vaccine and outreach clinics to date in our county.
On April 23, 2025, Nikki was going about her normal daily routine when an unimaginable situation unfolded - our coworker, Jennifer, went into cardiac arrest in the reception area. Without hesitation, Nikki sprang into action. She called out for help and for someone to call 911, not realizing in that moment of urgency that she had already done so herself while supporting Jennifer. Drawing on her CPR and AED training, Nikki immediately began lifesaving measures and continued to assist until EMS arrived. Her calm under pressure, quick thinking, and selfless response saved Jennifer's life that day. Nikki's courage and compassion are truly extraordinary and exemplify what is means to care deeply for others. She is an incredibly hard worker and presents with a heart of service to others. She has unwavering dedication to her team and community."
