Welcome to The Yurt at Frog Pond Farm

Writer Linda Frye Burnham and artist Steven Durland moved here from Los Angeles in 1994, in search of peace, quiet, water and green. The spot is 28-acre forest with no neighbors. It was a massage-therapy school before we bought it, and the yurt in the center of the property was their classroom. They taught water massage therapy in the huge hot tub. One of our greatest pleasures is sitting on the deck at night, watching the fireflies and listening to the dozens of frogs in the pond calling to each other.

About 2010 Steve started hanging his banner artworks in the trees, and naming the each one after a famous painting. Linda got interested and started researching the artists. Their remarks, in interviews and writings, sounded like poetry to her. (Picasso said, “I’m painting a wild horse. You might not see the horse, but you will surely see the wildness.”) She enthusiastically collected other quotes and created a poem for each artist, using his/her own words. They placed the poems on trail markers next to each of the banners and created two pathways for visitors to walk. Now Airbnb guests (and anyone) can walk the paths through the trees, leading to Steve’s Bourbon, Dogs & Art Gallery, which is also a yurt.

The Farm is home to 20 chickens, two geese, four dogs and two cats. It is beautiful in rain or shine or snow and is completely spectacular in the spring and fall. If you want to stay here, please go to the listing on Airbnb and request a date. (No parties, please.) See you soon.
