Just an update... Brayden is having a UVCG on January 11th to take a look at his kidneys. This a procedure that puts dye in his bladder and kidneys to take a look at the tissue. We are having this done to see if he had enough tissue in his bladder for proper function, if not then we will move to the next step, which is to take tissue from his intestines and place in his bladder to give it extra tissue for growth.

How does Human Growth Hormone work in children?

11/23/2009

Human Growth Hormone (HGH) injections were initially created for children whose growth was stunted because of the small amount of growth hormone produced by the pituitary gland. The only source for the hormone was to extract it from the pituitary gland of human cadavers. Each gland only contributed a few drops and so to obtain enough for just a single injection was very time consuming, and also very expensive (http://www.hmedicine.com/news/guide/hgh.php).

The kidneys play a critical role in the body: Acting as the body's filtering system, they help control water levels and eliminate wastes through urine. They also help regulate blood pressure, red blood cell production, and the levels of calcium and minerals. But sometimes the kidneys don't develop properly and, as a result, don't function the way that they should.
