The Town of Granby Youth Service is seeking new members for our JRB:

We have just received the new "Trauma-Informed Restorative Diversion Protocols and Procedures Manual" from the Connecticut Youth Service Bureau Association (CYSA). The updated manual is designed to improve and standardize the Juvenile Review Boards run by Youth Service Bureaus in conjunction with local Police Departments across the State of Connecticut.

This seems the perfect time to add 4 new members to our board, which has been serving the community for decades. Several of our members (myself included) bring decades of experience working with youth to the table, but we have begun to recognize the need for some...younger...voices to balance the board! :-)

The JRB meets on the third Wednesday of the month (July and August excluded) from 3 to 5 PM, if we have cases scheduled.

I'm interested in starting a chess club for middle/high school age kids. I plan to start it towards the end of July. I'm looking at Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM. BYO chessboard and a friend? We will have a High School freshman willing to teach beginners. I'll be in the room to support social communication and any conflict resolution :-)

Email or call me if you are interested in this free program. If it works over the summer, I would like to offer it throughout the school year. It could also be open for other board games, not just chess only.

The 2025 8th grade Red Carpet Dance is this Friday, May 9, 2025. It is open to all Granby residents and GMMS 8th graders. 8 to 10 PM at the YMCA. Proceeds fund our high school scholarship program.

Do you know any tweens or teens that have a quiet vibe? If they are looking for a place to hang out with others with a similar vibe, Artistic Vibe on Friday evenings at the YSB might be a good fit!

We have an active D&D group, Middle School meets from 5:30 to 7 and HS meets 7 to 9 pm. We also have space for other RPG groups to come...know any MAGIC player looking for a safe space to gather? Have them check us out!

We also have an artists creative corner that meets from 7 to 9. Run by one of our counseling interns, participants are encouraged to share what they are working on, brainstorm ideas, or just sit, listen and create. After the group discussion, participants are free to work on art projects, write, compose, or break off and play games. We have pool tables, air hockey, chess etc.

The Artistic Vibe is a small group hang out for youth in grades 7 through 12. We meet Friday evenings at the Youth Service Center from 7 to 9 PM.
