✨ North Dakota Represented at AOTA Hill Day in Washington, D.C.! ✨
This past week, Kara Welke, OTD, OTR/L, CLT, owner of Home Therapy Solutions in Grand Forks, ND, had the honor of representing North Dakota occupational therapy at AOTA’s Capitol Hill Day in Washington, D.C.
📊 This year’s event brought together:
- 316 OT advocates from across the country
- 173 congressional meetings (including 24 directly with members of Congress)
- Practitioners, students, and advocates from 29 states plus Washington, D.C.
Together, advocates fought for access to OT in home health, mental health, and schools.
💬 Kara met with the offices of Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak, Senator Kevin Cramer, and Senator John Hoeven to discuss:
- Continuation of telehealth
- Increases to the Physician Fee Schedule so practices can continue providing cost-saving, high-quality care that prevents hospitalizations and nursing facility placements
- H.R. 4037 / S. 2847 – The Occupational Therapy Mental Health Parity Act
- H.R. 2013 – The Medicare Home Health Accessibility Act (Senate bill forthcoming)
- Robust LHHS appropriations funding to address the OT workforce crisis and ensure students receive the services they need
🤝 Kara also collaborated with Heather Parsons, VP of AOTA Federal Affairs, sharing the real impacts of payment cuts on OT practices in North Dakota and beyond. She also spoke with AOTA President Arameh Anvarizadeh, OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA, to further address these critical concerns.
🏆 In addition, Kara highlighted that Home Therapy Solutions is the first private therapy practice in the world to be recognized as an Age-Friendly Health Care System. This recognition was supported by the HRSA-funded GWEP program, which Dakota Geriatrics in Grand Forks secured with the assistance of Senator Cramer’s office.
📖 You can read more about this recognition in the Grand Forks Herald: Home Therapy Solutions receives certification as Age-Friendly Health Care System.
We are so proud to have brought North Dakota’s voice to Capitol Hill to advocate for occupational therapy practitioners, clients, and communities across our state and beyond. 💙
