The Sanford Health leadership team from East Grand Forks and Grand Forks recently attended the Chamber’s State of the Base breakfast, where Col. Alfred Rosales, Commander of the 319th Reconnaissance Wing at Grand Forks Air Force Base, provided an update on current missions and future developments at the base.

Sanford Health is proud to stand alongside and support our military families, veterans, patients, and employees. Through its Department of Veterans and Military Services, Sanford Health is committed to serving those who have served our country.

The department’s goal is to assist veterans and military personnel in obtaining health care services, navigating care and insurance coverage, identifying wellness resources, and exploring employment opportunities. In addition, it provides family support services and veteran community outreach to ensure comprehensive, compassionate care for military-connected individuals.

As March came to an end, our dietitian, Sophia Gapp, wrapped up National Nutrition Month by offering a career exploration opportunity to local high school students. We were excited to share information with students at the Career Impact Academy (CIA) in Grand Forks where students learned about the education path to becoming a Registered Dietitian and planted a few herbs.

The Career Academy provides students with hands-on learning experiences in many in-demand career fields, including healthcare. During her visit, Sophia even spotted our organization’s name displayed on the wall recognizing businesses that support the Career Academy – a great reminder of the impact these partnerships have on future professionals.

Susie (Colter) Munyer, a proud graduate of Red River High School, recently returned to share her journey and introduce Sanford Health’s job shadowing and MedX‑HS opportunities with current high school students.

It was a great chance for students to learn about careers in health care, ask questions, and learn how hands‑on experiences can help shape their future pathways.

Several Sanford Health departments – Sourcing, Aspire, and the Sanford East Grand Forks/Grand Forks Clinics – participated in the North Dakota HOSA event held at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. The event brought together students from across the region to compete in presentations and hands‑on skills events while exploring in‑demand health care careers.

As part of the event, Justin Stromme, Director of Clinic Operations, presented Leadership in Healthcare during the banquet, sharing insights on leadership pathways and opportunities within the health care field. Sanford Health’s involvement highlighted its continued commitment to supporting student engagement, career exploration, and the development of future health care professionals.

Brian stopped by after work, looked at Hillary, and said, “No way…" then unzipped his coat to reveal the exact same outfit!

He left for work before she did, and neither of them had any idea what the other was putting on – total coincidence!

One thing we do know: Sanford is lucky to have both of them on the team. 💙

March is National Nutrition Month!

To celebrate, our very own Sanford Health Dietitian Sophia Gapp teamed up with Ace Hardware – East Grand Forks to help employees grow their own herbs at home! Basil and dill starter kits (soil + seeds!) were shared along with delicious, healthy recipes to try.

A huge thank‑you to Ace Hardware for supporting wellness in our workplace and for their continued partnership with the Children’s Miracle Network. When you shop, you can round up at the register to support CMN families.

Plus, Ace has a few adorable Warmie puppy plushies with special tags and $5 from each Warmie goes directly to CMN!

Carlee Hennessey, Patient Access at Sanford Grand Forks, answered phone calls at the Radiothon in Grand Forks raising funds for the Children's Miracle Network.

"The reason I choose to do the Miracle Maker Radiothon each year is because when you are at the radio station you get to actually meet some of these kids who have fought or fighting battles. You get to really see why we are asking people to donate. These kids are so strong and when they come in with a smile on their face regardless of their past or present situation. The environment is always fun and upbeat while these kids come in to tell their story on the radio."

Who can apply?
Applicants must:
✔ Be affiliated with a participating Sanford network community (employee, family member, patient, or local resident)
✔ Be pursuing a career in healthcare
✔ Have a 3.0+ GPA on a 4.0 scale

Award:
💙 $2,000 scholarship
💙 Eligible each year (up to $4,000 lifetime)
