💡 🧐 Are you familiar with your psoas muscle? It’s a very important muscle and is often called the “seat of emotion” because it is greatly affected by stress and many other emotions. It tends to be a common problem for a great majority of my clients and is often released most successfully using Myofascial Release Techniques in my experience. ✋🏼🤚🏼

This muscle 💪 is probably one of the most important postural and structural muscles 🩻 for numerous reasons. 👇

* It connects the upper half 👚of the body to the lower half 👖of the body.
* It lies on either side of the sacrum and is therefore part of our center of gravity, which means…
*It is key in controlling big movements of
the body. 💃🏻🕺🏽
* Related to the strength of the spine. 🧍🏽
* Can create a strong lordosis (accentuated lumbar curve).
* Often gets related to back pain. 😣
* The epitome of “core” muscles. 💪
* The area that it lies in is also related to emotion – gut instincts – butterflies in our stomach. 🦋

It lies quite deep in the torso making it one of the deepest muscles of the abdomen. Many postural stretches I show my clients can release it, but it requires more of a slow, continuous and gentle release, often needing manual therapy. Don’t forget to massage this important muscle and stretch it regularly. 💕💆‍♀️

Eczema tips for your hands from our go-to eczema expert Dr. Temple. These are quite helpful this time of year. 👇

“Let’s talk about hand eczema - because this is one of the most painful, frustrating places for flares.

Cracks.
Oozing.
Bleeding.

That burning sting every time water, soap, or sanitizer touches the skin.
If this is you (or your child), here’s what we need to understand:

🫴 Hands don’t heal the same way the rest of the body does.
🫴 They’re constantly exposed, washed, rubbed, and re-injured.

That means we need a very intentional topical strategy while we heal eczema from within.

Here’s the exact hand protocol I recommend to calm itching, reduce infection risk, and give the skin a chance to repair.

Step 1: Active skin repair (daily, even during flares)
Start with hypochlorous acid spray.

This helps:
Reduce Staph aureus colonization
Lower skin pH (eczema-prone skin runs too alkaline)
Calm inflammation without burning damaged skin
Spray it on clean hands and let it fully dry.

Step 2: Restore + protect the barrier
Once the spray dries, apply Pink Rescue Cream.

With Vitamin B12, St. John’s Wort and heaps of other soothing ingredients, this formula supports healing. It helps:
Decrease staph colonization
Reduce inflammation
Deeply moisturize cracked skin
Support barrier repair
Step 3: Seal it in (this part matters more than you think)

Hands won’t heal if we leave them exposed.
After applying the cream:
Put on organic cotton gloves
And for severe flares:

– Wet one pair of gloves
– Put them on
– Layer a dry pair over the top

This “wet wrap” technique drives moisture into the skin, reduces itching and cracking and gives the barrier a protected healing window.

👉 Here’s the gloves I always recommend (other organic cotton gloves work too).

One important reminder..
Topicals help manage symptoms, but they don’t fix the root cause.

If hand eczema keeps returning, it’s often a sign of:
Ongoing inflammation
Gut imbalance
Nutrient deficiencies
Immune system overload
That’s why we always pair topical care with internal healing.
But for relief right now - this protocol gives the skin a fighting chance.

With care,
Dr. Ana-Maria Temple”

❄️ ⛄️ WINTER TIPS! ❄️ 🥶
Hydration is important as I remind all of my clients after each session. But winter… the dry air, dry skin, cold environment, more sicknesses, and less fresh air makes it more important to hydrate.

I’m sharing a photo of some wellness products we use throughout the winter, missing the RC elderberry which is in the fridge! I have the Rowe Casa (RC) Organics products in my massage studio for clients to purchase.

Here are some other great wellness tips from one of our favorite holistic doctors, who specializes in skin health! 👇

“The middle of winter tends to push sensitive kids a little harder. I see more eczema flares, more illness, and more worn-down parents. But this is also when small shifts can make a big difference.

Here are the 7 habits I lean on the most with families right now:

1. Feed the gut well. It powers over 70% of the immune system. Whole foods, probiotics, and less sugar go a long way in calming inflammation from within.

2. Protect rest. Late nights and busy days wear down the skin and immune system. Gentle routines and consistent sleep help reset both.

3. Keep skin covered, but hydrated. Frequent handwashing? Important. But dry skin needs support. A fragrance-free moisturizer can make a real difference post-wash.

4. Hydrate. Even in winter, hydration fuels digestion, detox, and healing. Warm teas, broths, or fruit-infused water all count.

5. Fill the gaps with targeted support. I trust Vitamin C, Vitamin D3 + K2, zinc, and elderberry for winter immunity and skin health, especially when kids are feeling run down.

6. Support emotional balance. Stress and overstimulation can show up on the skin and in the immune system. Quiet moments, gentle movement, and connection help keep things steady.

7. Lower the daily toxic load. Fragrances, processed snacks, and indoor pollutants can stress the system. Small swaps, like clean snacks or unscented laundry detergent, can ease the burden.
You don’t need to do it all, and you definitely don’t need to do it perfectly. Steady consistency really is enough.”

Wishing you steadier days and stronger systems,
Dr. Ana-Maria Temple, MD

We are grateful to see some improvements in the new food pyramid and guidelines that was just set. Most of our grains are not like they used to be. Getting Whole Foods, protein, and plenty of vegetables (especially leafy greens) should be our first priority. 💕

Pain and inflammation often begin in your gut. As I work to aid the healing of muscles and fascia for clients, they do themselves a wonderful service by focusing on their gut health. 🙏🏼

Fascia…. What is it?
I often get asked this question as a Myofascial Release Therapist.
It is connective tissue like a web covering the entire body. Its health affects muscles, bones, organs, nerves, mobility, so many things.

I have been blessed to have been trained in this therapy a few years ago, and it has changed my life and the lives of some of my clients.
Yesterday, I was privileged to treat a client with severe pain and limited mobility amongst many symptoms that specialist after specialist has not been able to figure out. During my treatment, healing crisis and unwinding occurred, which can be painful as the body begins to let go and heal. But the relief and lightness afterwards was rewarding for her. I am so thankful God has guided me and allowed me to help others in this way. To God be the glory.

Check out the images for more details about what fascia is. 🙏🏼 💆‍♀️

A product I discovered a few years ago! And one that has so many benefits!
Two sizes of Castor Oil available at my massage studio.

Here are three different approaches to using castor oil.

Topical Uses:
Apply castor oil to the skin to help treat acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It is excellent for treating dry, cracked skin conditions.

Internal Uses:
Castor oil can be used as a laxative to help relieve constipation.
Castor oil can help support liver function through aiding detoxification and improving the flow of bile.

Other Applications:
Castor oil packs are made by soaking a cloth in castor oil and applying it to the skin. These are used to relieve pain, ease cramping, promote digestion, and improve circulation.
Castor oil enemas are another method for easing constipation and cleansing the colon.

Which essential oils support digestion?

As an RN, I’m constantly amazed at how the body works tirelessly to turn food into energy, which we then use to build our lives. But as many of us know, digestion isn’t always a smooth process.

Essential oils can offer gentle support. With their antispasmodic, soothing, and stimulating properties, certain oils can help calm indigestion, ease bloating, reduce cramping, and even encourage healthy elimination.

For example:
- Oils with antispasmodic actions (like Roman Chamomile or Sweet Basil) can help relax cramps in the digestive tract (Heghes et al. 2019; Sandor et al. 2019).
- Some oils (like Ginger) can ease nausea and bring comfort when your system feels sluggish (De Pradier, 2006).

I recently wrote a blog post that goes into more detail about how we can use aromatherapy for digestion. If you'd like to read it, you'll find the link in the first comment below this post.

Meanwhile, this post features some of my favorite oils for the belly, gut, and overall digestive system:
Anise (Pimpinellum anisum)
Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum)
Cinnamon Bark (Cinnamomum verum)
Coriander (Coriandrum sativum)
Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
Peppermint (Mentha x piperita)
Plai (Zingiber cassumunar)
Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)
Spearmint (Mentha spicata)
Sweet Basil (Ocimum basilicum ct linalool)
Sweet Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare)
Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)

Have you tried Cedarwood? I was not a huge fan of it when I first started using it but it is a great option to assist in relaxation and sleep, especially for children. 🌱💕

Is cedarwood oil a sedative?

Cedarwood oil from Juniperus virginiana (also called Virginia cedarwood) is actually a type of juniper. It carries a powerful natural compound called cedrol—and science shows cedrol has real effects on your nervous system.

Two fascinating studies—one in healthy adults (Dayawansa et al. 2003), and one in people who could no longer smell (Umeno et al. 2008)—found that inhaling cedrol:

- Slows the heart rate
- Lowers blood pressure
- Reduces breathing rate
- Increases parasympathetic (“rest-and-digest”) nervous activity
- Decreases sympathetic (“fight-or-flight”) nervous activity

The relaxing effects happened even when participants couldn’t smell the cedrol at all. That means this compound may work directly through the lungs, not just the nose.

Cedarwood oil isn’t a narcotic—it won’t “knock you out” if you’re not sleepy. But it does have mild sedative effects making it useful for:

- Stress relief
- Anxiety management
- Sleep support
- Nervous system regulation

Try cedarwood essential oil in your diffuser, a diluted roll-on (up to 18 drops per 1 fl oz/30 ml of carrier), or a calming room spray—especially in the evening when you’re ready to wind down.
