Using psychological science to improve performance. Do you want to perform at the top of your potential? Using cutting-edge psychological science, I help individuals, teams, and organizations achieve peak performance, foster athlete mental health, and apply sport psychology principles that translate both in and out of sport. My approach is practical, science-backed and tailored to the unique demands of competitive sport environments. I specialize in working with college student-athletes and also work with athletes at other competitive levels (high school teams, National and Olympic team members, professional athletes). I work with athletes in over 20 individual and team sports. I present nationally on topics related to mental health, performance psychology, professional well-being, and interprofessional collaboration to corporate, healthcare, and sport audiences. Because I take confidentiality very seriously, I do not disclose the athletes and teams with whom I work. I also do not post testimonials about my work with others, as I believe it is best to not give information that could identify my clients.

It's that time of year where student-athletes start thinking about retirement from their sport. Sometimes that retirement happens as planned, but many times there's an unexpected path.

DYK that nearly 85% of athletes believe that being an athlete defined their identity when transitioning into retirement?

It makes sense because there is SO MUCH invested into becoming an elite athlete!

We have 3 tips to help you adjust to sport retirement:

1️⃣ Lean on your support network
2️⃣ Develop your non-sport identity (and don't panic if you aren't sure what that is!)
3️⃣ Plan for sport retirement (this is helpful even if you're already in retirement OR if retirement is in the future)

If you're looking for tools to help you with this, check out our program, Ready, Set, Next, which was developed to help student-athletes deal with sport-related change.

➡️ 100% of the athletes who have participated in our program found it valuable and would recommend it to other student-athletes! Who doesn't love stats like that?!

You can access the program on-demand via our website (FREE for student-athletes in the state of North Dakota or attending a college in North Dakota) or bring us to your campus for a live, interactive workshop (also FREE in North Dakota!).

This effort is associated with North Dakota's State Su***de Prevention Program, funded by the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Behavioral Health Division (BHD). We are so honored that they value athlete mental health and well-being!

Everyone: Meet Wilson (aka Will…and I’m now stuck with Dave singing Little W***y for the rest of his life 😂)!!

He’s Wilson cuz his rescue name was Will (which he already knows) and is the color of a football 😍

We adopted this sweet boy from on Saturday. He’s a 9ish month old herding mix, super smart, and aims to please. He’s shy at first (I had a big scary coat on when we met, so he’s still not sure about me 😬) but already BFFs with Dave!

He’s great with Fromm (gives him his space) and ignores ALL of Bella’s barking at him for being in her house (I suspect they’ll be buds once she chills out 😎).

Oh, and did I mention FETCH ALL DAY with this boy?! 🎾🎾🎾 But he’s got a great off switch and will clearly be Dave’s new Football Sunday snuggler 🥰

We’re so honored he’s letting us give him a chance at finding a safe home where he will be spoiled ❤️

Oh, Skeddy. We’re so sad to see you cross the rainbow bridge today, but we love you enough to let you go out well ❤️🌈

We learned on Wednesday that he had an inoperable tumor in his lungs and was declining fast. The past 2 days were filled with snuggles, a few treats (he lost his appetite), the best walk he’s ever had, and so much love.

We didn’t expect to lose him so soon (his 7-year gotcha day is on Monday, and he’s 8.5yo), but it’s never long enough anyway.

Say hi to Molz for us, Sked. I think she’ll like this version of you. Love you dearly, sweet, complex Skeddy ❤️💔🌈

I am dedicated to helping athletes find success in all areas of their lives: sport, academics, work, and relationships with themselves and others. We work together to develop an individualized plan based upon goals we identify together. These plans can be short-term (during the competitive season) or long-term (year-long periodized mental training plans corresponding to physical training plans).

Given mental health factors may also impact performance, I also work with athletes to optimize their mental health. We address a variety of factors that may impact mental health, such as sleep, priority management, and stress management.
