“Grandma, you have to move in here! It’s like a cruise ship!” That sealed the deal for Rose and Elvin to move into Edgewood in Fargo in 2009. Due to some health concerns for Elvin, they decided to make a move to assisted living. While, her granddaughter’s excitement won her over, the amenities made her stay, particularly not having to cook.

When they moved in, Rose was 77 and Elvin was 82. At the time, Edgewood Fargo had just opened and did not yet offer church services. Rose stepped in to help establish and maintain Catholic services — something she continues to do to this day.

Rose quickly became an ambassador for the community, welcoming and assisting new residents as they settled in. She has also been an active supporter of fundraising events to benefit those in need in the Fargo/Moorhead area. Rose participates in as many activities as she can, grateful for the friendships and opportunities they bring. She and Elvin valued the continuum of care available to let them both age in place. Rose was with us during the flood evacuation, and later, when Elvin moved to our memory care. It was there that Elvin passed away, with his family by his side.

It’s people like Rose that bring their passions, traditions, and energy, helping the community thrive just as much as they do. We are Edgewood.

At Edgewood Mandan at Lakewood we are made up of amazing team members. We are made up of residents who embrace change. We are made up of families who jump in to help.

Yes, this building was built on a foundation, but what truly makes it strong is the foundation of Edgewood love. Over the past eight months, it has taken all hands on deck to bring this community to life — from our regional support team to our sister sites across the street and across the river, to our own families who showed up to help make this place shine.

Danielle Zins, now Executive Director, brought with her not only years of experience from Edgewood Village in Bismarck, but also her whole family’s support. Her kids landscaped the grounds, her husband mowed the grass, and her mom proudly gave tours. Bill, our maintenance director who once worked at Edgewood Dominion in Bismarck, poured his experience into every project, while his wife rolled up her sleeves to clean apartments. Beyond our core team, we’ve had sales and clinical support, additional leadership, nurses stepping in to support residents, office staff learning new processes, and team members training side by side to help us grow. Their willingness to jump in proved that all this community really needed was a little Edgewood love to feel like home.

Construction and remodels are no easy feat, but our crews pulled together with early mornings and late nights. And the upgrades? Nothing short of exciting. More office space means room for a growing team and growing success. And the addition of a commercial kitchen for our Independent and Assisted Living residents, something the building never had before, has been a joy to watch come alive.

This community is living proof that it takes more than a village… it takes a family. Everyone has had a hand in building something truly special here. And when we work together, no one gets left behind, our residents get the very best care. We are Edgewood.

“It’s nothing like what people used to think!”

That’s what Jean said the first time she stepped through the doors at Edgewood Flandreau and instantly knew she was going to love it here.

Jean’s story comes full circle. For many years, she worked in healthcare like nursing homes, and hospitals as both a housekeeper and an aide. Known for her love of organization and her caring heart, she spent much of her life supporting others in senior care. After experiencing firsthand what it’s like to work in communities like this, Jean made the decision to call Edgewood her own home. That kind of trust speaks volumes.

“It felt like home.” What Jean cherishes most is the feeling of Edgewood. She remembers a Christmas she spent here during a bad winter storm. Instead of feeling lonely, she felt wrapped in warmth as residents gathered in the living room, opening Secret Santa gifts and celebrating together like family. Jean has experienced her own transformation. She’s come out of her depression, found the right balance with her medications, and rediscovered what it feels like to truly feel good. “It’s been a while since I felt good.”

From senior care worker to Edgewood resident, Jean has lived both sides; and she’ll tell you, “You’ll love it here. That’s all I can say, because I love it here.” We are Edgewood.

70 years married and still flirting at happy hour! “He likes to have fun and do all the wonderful things together. He’s just a good guy! And I still think he’s handsome.” Annette and Leroy are living their retirement days and are about to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. Their love story began in 1954, when they met at the Dancing Badger, 11 months later at the ages of 18 and 21, respectively, they were married.

Over the years, they’ve shared countless adventures: RV camping trips, walleye fishing getaways, traveling during LeRoy’s service years, bus tours, and plenty of game nights with friends. Their greatest joy, though, is their family. Their son Mike and daughter-in-law Anita, who encouraged them to move to Edgewood-Virginia, Minnesota so they could live closer after some health challenges.

Leroy’s always smiling when talking about Annette. “She’s just perfect. She’s pretty and everything I could ever want. I love her!” Today, you’ll find the two of them enjoying their Independent Living apartment and the community life that comes with it! Coffee socials at 10 a.m., Happy Hours at 2 p.m., potlucks, special dinners arranged by neighbors, and the joy of being surrounded by people who look out for each other.

Their best advice: “Don’t go to bed angry. Settle your arguments before bed. Tell each other “I love you several times a day. We do and we never get tired of saying it or hearing it.”

Annette and LeRoy’s story is a beautiful reminder of why retirement and romance can thrive together at Edgewood. We are Edgewood.

We know that staying connected to the world beyond our walls is just as important as what happens inside them. That’s why at Edgewood Village we love opening our doors to local businesses and organizations, bringing unique experiences directly to our residents.

From florists donating beautiful bouquets, to volunteers, to artists and crafters showcasing their talents, each visit brings something new to look forward to. Our residents enjoy the chance to browse, taste, and explore; while also building relationships with people from the community they’ve always called home.

These visits do more than brighten the day. They spark conversations, create memories, and keep our residents engaged in the vibrancy of our town. At the same time, we’re proud to support local businesses by giving them the opportunity to share their passions with an appreciative audience.

It's so cool the partnerships we can create to allow our residents to enjoy things within the local community. Because, we’re dedicated to building a thriving community where connections flourish, both inside and out. We Are Edgewood.

Some bonds stand the test of time. For Marlene, Deanna, and Elain, sisterhood has always been that bond. They grew up side-by-side, sharing bedrooms and plenty of childhood adventures. Life eventually took them in different directions with raising families and the challenges that come with each season of life.

But now, years later, Edgewood Sartell has brought them back together under one roof. These three sisters can often be found sharing lunch in the dining room to joining in on activities to enjoying the simple joy of daily life together. It’s fun to watch our residents walk through their retirement chapter of life, but when you get to watch them do it hand-in-hand with someone who’s been there since the very beginning, it’s a gift.

Their laughter is contagious, they finish each other’s sentences and they truly get to celebrate life’s little things. We love that we can make Edgewood more than another place, but where family can reunite and make new memories together. We are Edgewood.
