Hi, Hello, Howdy.
Just your [east end] neighborhood yoga and community studio here!
I’m Kate, the owner. Born and raised in Grand Haven. Lived a few different places and moved back in 2021.
Never really had a desire to try yoga, but about 15 years ago, a friend dragged me to a class. We did about 562 chatrungas (essentially a yoga burpee) and I couldn’t move for about a 3 days. I didn’t love it, and I didn’t think I’d go back. But I did.
When I first started going to yoga, I wanted to be the best in the class. I wanted the yoga teacher to come over and tell me what a good job I was doing and that I should be a yoga teacher. Insert eye roll here.
Over time I learned that yoga wasn’t something I had to be good at. I could just go.
I learned how to breathe when poses were hard.
How to breathe when poses were easy.
How to breathe when my body was still but my mind was active. How to breathe when my body was active and my mind still.
I started Sangha Haus because I craved a place where I could be myself. Take my mask off. Show up, be bad at yoga. Breast feed my daughter without weird looks. Find community and cultivate a conscious lifestyle. Some place where I could talk about what it means to be human, but also sip cocktails and dance.
So here we are.
We’re a small studio. Slowly and surely, we’ve built an INCREDIBLE team of yoga teachers and humans. Everyone brings something really special to the space. We are cultivating a very small community. Everyone is beautiful.
Sometimes I’m curious if this will be but a blip in my timeline. Or maybe it will be a staple in the east end for the years to come. It doesn’t really matter. It’s here now and it’s beautiful.
If you’re feeling like you want a sense of community, come check us out.
I turn 41 at the end of the week and my only birthday wish is to do to a yoga class with my friends. Not something I thought I’d say 15 years ago. If it’s your first time visiting us, mention this post and your class is on da haus!
