Did you see the clinic on Local 4 News last night? We'll also be on the radio and more in the upcoming days discussing our new drug programs that have allowed us to provide even more free subscriptions to our patients.
**The clinic does not have access to narcotics, psychiatric meds and other controlled substances.
Third City Community Clinic
The Third City Community Clinic is working with national programs to help Nebraskans get free prescriptions to those in need.
According to the clinic, in the last 6 months, over 300 central Nebraskans have received prescriptions completely free because of Americares and Dispensary of Hope.
Both Americares and Dispensary of Hope help provide medications for underprivileged people. Misty Schaecher, the executive director at Third City, said that Americares also helps with preparing Project Connect, an event dedicated to providing services to those that are homeless or in need, with prescriptions.
“We’re able to get things besides just medications, but we can’t control of what they’re going to have every week. Every week, it’s a list that’s totally different, you order by the case, which is how we’re preparing for Project Connect next week, by using all of those Americares items that were non-prescription,” Schaecher said.
For Dispensary of Hope, the clinic has to pay $7,500 a year to get medications like unlimited insulin access and more. Kelli Eriksen, a nurse at Third City, said that can have a big impact on their patients taking the insulin as prescribed.
Eriksen said when people can’t afford insulin, they might try to ration it, but that’s not healthy for them and can cause issues.
“It’s important they’re checking their blood glucose and taking their insulin according to their glucose levels so they don’t go into any, hyper or hypoglycemic episodes,” Eriksen said.
If you would like to donate to the Third City Community Clinic, staff recommend to go to their website here. If you have items to donate, they say to bring those into the clinic.
