Christopher Lepisto, ND

Christopher Lepisto, ND Better health, naturally I am Doctor Christopher Lepisto. You may seek out my care for a number of reasons. You may simply want to improve your overall health.

As a naturopathic doctor, I specialize in helping the body to naturally achieve and maintain optimal health. Today, many of us develop health challenges which result from the stress of our busy lifestyle, leaving us feeling exhausted and overworked. This is a defeating experience for those of us who are accustomed to feeling strong, energetic and vibrant. I work closely with my patients to address the root cause of their health challenges, rather than simply treating the superficial symptoms. The natural solutions I provide are designed to give the body the necessary components to heal, regenerate, and operate in peak form. But you don't have to suffer from a particular condition to set a visit. I understand what your body needs for optimal function and performance throughout all stages of life. I provides unique treatments and solutions to help your body perform at its best and maintain health through the body's natural ability to create its own vitality, rather than treating symptoms with pharmaceuticals which mask the underlying problems. Naturopathy is particularly well suited for chronic conditions such as asthma, muscle pain, allergies and arthritis, as well as disorders that may have a stress- or diet-related factor, such as digestive problems, insomnia, skin disorders and fatigue. If you've never been to a naturopathic doctor before, you'll be delighted with the level of personalized care you receive. Unlike visiting an allopathic physician—where you are seen by the doctor for only a few minutes, given a prescription and sent on your way—your treatment with me will begin with a thorough health evaluation and assessment, as well as a detailed investigation of any specific health concerns which may have prompted your visit. I will continue to see you actively over the course of 5-8 weeks to measure how your body is responding to treatment, and adapt your specific treatment plan accordingly. After the initial treatment course, I will likely recommend occasional follow-up visits to ensure your body is performing at its best.

Wondering what foods help create sharp cognition, especially ages 55 and older? A recent study of almost 8000 people in China determined that people consuming more of the essential nutrient choline and its brother alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine (alpha-GPC), performed better on analytical tests. The greatest individual food source? Eggs.

Why do allergy and cold symptoms seem to overlap in the fall? As allergy season persists here in Western Colorado, it can inflame and weaken the mucosal barrier — our first line of defense against viruses. This chronic irritation makes it easier for pathogens to take hold. Essentially, when the immune system is already “busy” reacting to allergens, it may have fewer resources available to mount a strong response to infection. Naturopathic medicine helps both issues by treating the whole person.

Is creatine a fad or does it work? While the natural product industry is no exception to “the greatest thing since…”, creatine has caught my attention beyond its popularity in athletes as a real consideration for support in aging bodies. It creates blood vessel flexibility and resilience, resulting in better brain and muscle function.

Wondering about your prostate cancer risk, especially with a family history? Starting in your 40s, I check Prostate Specific Antigens in my office as an early marker of prostate health, not a final answer. With the 2025 rise of prostate cancer deaths to the #2 cause in men (behind lung cancer) along with the coexisting over-diagnosis / over-treatment of benign prostate tumors, we need to find aggressive disease earlier while reducing treatment harms. New blood and urinary tests like 4Kscore, ExoDx and MyProstateScore 2.0 can clarify your picture without digital-rectal exams.

If you believe you have a gluten sensitivity, how much does that affect your reactivity to it? I'm fascinated by an article on the relationship between Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Gluten, and belief. It showed that expectations play a major role in symptom generation, along with reactivity to gluten itself. It matches my experience that if you believe something is detrimental (or beneficial), it will affect health outcomes. (credit Biotics Research)

Dragging fatigue can only be partially explained by rapidly declining sunlight in the fall. It can be worthy to check blood indicators for a deeper story of imbalances like thyroid, adrenal or nutritional deficiencies. Stay tuned for a bigger picture of fall fatigue in my next newsletter.

How do you know what is best for you and your family on the dinner plate? The old tradition of choosing a meat around which to build your meal differs greatly from the current message we often hear, "go plant-based" for better health. While each of us must answer this for ourselves, I encourage a consideration around the quality of meat and animal products, rather than simply wether to eat them or not.

Wondering if coffee increases your longevity? A meta-review of current research suggests regular, moderate consumption (1-2 cups daily) of coffee results in a reduced risk of all-cause mortality. There are benefits for cardiovascular health, type II diabetes, estrogen receptor negative and post-menopausal cancer reductions, while not aggravating atrial fibrillation. It can increase the risk of glaucoma, sleep disturbance, and anxiety, so a tailored approach is warranted.

It is disappointing (but unsurprising) to hear multiple U.S. scholastic and governmental authorities dismiss any concern around the connection between acetaminophen and autism, when consumed during pregnancy. Stay tuned later this week for my newsletter exploring the evidence.
