The Outdoor Wilderness Lab (OWL Camp) is an outdoor science school owned and operated by Mesa County Valley School District 51 in Gateway that focuses on providing experiential education through outdoor science and social-emotional learning opportunities for all students in the Grand Valley such as hikes, archery, obstacle courses, wildlife biodiversity, and more. However being out in nature, they have lost their bridge from the rising river multiple times over the last few years. So some our nursing students, who are also the camp nurses, went out to reinforce and rebuild bridge with metal supports. They also created a system to where the bridge can be pulled off and put back on so it won’t be washed away anymore. No students are missing out on this experience on our watch!

With the community’s amazing support, SNA voted to spend a portion of our fundraiser money from last semester on items we could donate to Catholic Outreach. We decided we would also host a donation box for anyone missed out on our frundaiser, or for those who would like to continue to support this amazing community.
Why Catholic Outreach?
Many BSN students are exposed to the various Catholic Outreach programs in the Grand Valley. The Day Center and Soup Kitchen are two areas we are familiar with best. Spending time in those settings teaches and reinforces some of the most fundamental values of nursing. We came together and decided it was a great way to give back to a community that serves us so well.
