Bloomin’ Babies Birth Center, LLC was founded in 2012 by midwife Patty Kandiko and her husband and business partner, Dick Kandiko. The birth center is:
a sanctuary where mothers give birth
a learning place for intimacy, birth and family
a supportive community for women and families
an integral part of the Western Slope and eastern Utah health care system
a midwife’s place of business
a clinical training site for midwives
As defined by the American Association of Birth Centers, a birth center is “a homelike facility, existing within a healthcare system with a program of care designed in the wellness model of pregnancy and birth. Birth centers are guided by principles of prevention, sensitivity, safety, appropriate medical intervention, and cost effectiveness. Birth centers provide family-centered care for healthy women before, during and after normal pregnancy, labor and birth”. Certifications: In accordance with Colorado birth center regulations, our midwives are certified nurse-midwives (CNM) and our birth assistants are registered nurses (RN) with special training in labor support and infant care.
Certified nurse-midwives are registered nurses who went on to complete a graduate midwifery education program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME), and passed a national certification examination administered by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) to receive the professional designation of CNM.
