My last new product to introduce this year. I released this a couple weeks a show. This one is for everyone!
In an attempt it reduce the amount of plastic in our lives and food we have gone back to using wooden cutting boards in our household. The side bonus of this is that they are not nearly as hard on our knives. My dilemma in going this route was the importance of maintaining them. They need to be conditioned and sealed so the last. The most common solution for sealing wood is food-safe mineral oil, sometimes called liquid paraffin. Sure, mineral oil might be food-safe, but it’s generally a petroleum product, and I don’t want that on the board I use for my or my kids veggies. We had gone the route of coating our wood utensils and boards in shelf stable oil and letting them soak it in over night but this didn’t do much for creating a water barrier. This is when my husband said can you please make me something better for these boards. Thanks for the push in the obvious direction, he gets the credit for this creation. We have been using it for almost a year and it is great.
This cutting board oil/conditioner is good for cutting boards, butcher blocks, wooden utensils, serving bowls, and island- or countertops. If it’s made out of wood, it will appreciate the attention.
To Use:
On a clean dry board, block, or utensil. Using your hands or a clean cloth scrap, rub evenly onto surfaces of board, block, or utensil. Be sure to cover top, bottom, and sides.
For first application: Set aside to soak in overnight, reapply then use a clean cloth scrap to wipe away any excess from wood. For Quick Application/Reapplication: Use a clean cloth scrap to wipe away any excess from wood. Alternatively, you can set aside to soak in overnight, reapply, and then wipe free.
Repeat monthly or any time you think your utensils and cutting board could use some love. (If you rinse and wipe dry right after use you can go well over a month between applications.)
