My favorite thermal bathing experiences all capture something essential about their setting. Collectively they remind me what is possible when you allow sense of place to lead design.

As the founder of Sisu + Löyly, I spend a lot of time imagining what our full bathhouse experience could be. When I close my eyes, I don’t just see saunas, cold plunges, or pools — I see places where design, nature, and culture come together in ways that feel unforgettable.

Cook County and the saunas by air thanks to Sawtooth Aviation sightseeing tours! The kids and I got Sam a gift certificate for Father’s Day and Emma and Sam took to the skies this morning. 10/10 recommend!
