One year ago, my student and now friend... since then he is now a double amputee. This video brings hope to him that his time spent with the horses doesn't have to end or always involve something he can't do. He will be 96 this month.

I left such fights for those who have nothing else to fight...

I've watched many horse folks doing ground "work" with not much thought to what the horse may be thinking rather what they think the horse should be doing. What I mean by this is this... example... the horse is moving around you while you still have your stick or hand up showing them the direction. Why are the aids still engaged when the horse is traveling in the direction that you have asked them? to some horses this is nagging. To other this could be screaming. Give them the responsibility and be as quiet and as light as they need for isn't the goal to communicate your intention? Do less and see what happens. The relationship is not about mechanics but the feel from you to the horse and back to you... less is more. I see round penning in the same manner. What is the purpose of putting the horse in the round pen? Food for thought...
