Ruby JonesEpstein, LCSW aka Ruby Tuesday, known also as the Psych Guru, is a renowned celebrity psychotherapist . While the private lives of her A-List clients will remain so, we get a candid look at the woman behind some of Hollywood’s most fantastic untold stories. Ruby had an honest up bringing in the rural region of Benneckenstein, in East Germany’s Harz Mountains. In 1956, she relocated to the United States with her German mother and African-American father, and spoke only German. By the age of twelve she began designing custom clothing, and at sixteen opened her own boutique called the Bamboo Hut. She designed and sold countless garments, and produced eccentric stage wear worn by Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Sly and the Family Stone, Graham Central Station, The Brecker Brothers, Barry Manilow. One play she designed for in New York City, was the Rock Musical "HAIR" also featured some of Ruby's designs, when it opened at the Cheetah Night Club. Following the success of her boutique, Ruby pursued a formal education in apparel design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. During this time, Ruby worked closely with Japanese ahead of her time artist Yayoi Kusama . Many other mediums intrigued Ruby as well, including painting. She studied under artist Leon Gollup, and eventually exhibited her own art in Studio 54, The Smithsonian, and Wolf Trap in Washington D.C. A major turning point in her life came about in 1988, when she and Sly Stone built a recording studio in the attic of her New Jersey home. The endeavor ultimately resulted in a vast, unreleased collection of Sly Stone’s music, which would not see publication until early 2011. By 1991, in a quest to better understand herself and the complex relationships she developed over the years, Ruby continued her education at Douglas College in New Jersey. She made short work of earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, followed by her Master’s Degree from Rutgers Graduate School of Social Work. specializing and Stress Reduction , and Addictions Recovery. Today, Ruby specializes in everything from addictions and recovery, to stress management and holistic psychotherapy. With a private practice in Dallas, Texas, and clients in California, Ruby Tuesday is quickly making a name for herself in the world of mental health. Despite her transformation into a mental health professional, Ruby Tuesday will always be an eclectic artist, whose creativity spans fine art, fashion design, writing, music, and now the fine art of holistic psychotherapeutic counseling.
