If you’ve been wanting to make big changes with your health, please read through to the end.

I’ve been thinking a lot these last several months about the women who follow my functional medicine work quietly. The ones who reach out here and there in my dm’s, who care about their health and want to make meaningful changes in their lives. The ones who want and need support, but don’t have hundreds of dollars to spend to receive 1:1 private functional medicine support, and who rely on insurance to make anything health-related affordable.

Here’s what I’ve seen over and over in my work: most women don’t need crazy fancy functional medicine intervention. They need support with the fundamentals, and someone to help them stay consistent long enough for those basics to actually work. So many women improve drastically when they get the foundations of a healthy lifestyle dialed in. Fancy labwork and deeper targeted support definitely have their place, but starting with that kind of high-level support without having the foundations in place can sometimes be like putting the cart before the horse.

Real, lasting, meaningful change comes from - and you will hear me say this over and over - the basic, boring, everyday stuff. The daily choices, the way we think, the support we have. If you’re stuck in the acne cycle and feel like nothing works, here’s a lesser-known tip that could make all the difference:

Your gut and skin are deeply connected through the gut-skin axis. An imbalanced gut—caused by things like processed foods, stress, or even antibiotics—can lead to inflammation and acne. One sneaky culprit? Low stomach acid. Without enough stomach acid, your body struggles to properly digest food and absorb nutrients like zinc, which is critical for healthy, clear skin.
