At The Fertility Center, we know that infertility is a deeply personal issue affecting all areas of a couple’s life. Founded in 1991 by Dr. William Dodds & Dr. James Young, we offer services designed to address each couple’s unique needs from basic fertility evaluation to In Vitro Fertilization and Donor services. We draw upon the extensive experience of our physicians, lab director and nursing professionals to optimize your chances for success. In addition to our medical services, we offer one-on-one counseling services with a certified infertility counselor, free of charge. We invite you to schedule an appointment with Dr. Valerie Shavell, Dr. Mili Thakur, Dr. Emma Giuliani, or Dr. Gary Jones at one of our locations in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Mason, or Traverse City, where together we can develop a successful treatment plan for achieving your dream. Our exhale group is such a valuable resource to our patients! Hosted by our staff counselor, Amanda, it’s a wonderful way to join a community of people who understand what you’re going through.

However, one thing we always hear from our patients is how time is so limited. Balancing infertility with work and life is tricky. So we thought we’d find a way to make it easier to fit some extra emotional support into your day.

For PCOS awareness month, we talked about how PCOS is a hormonal disorder that causes the ovaries to produce excessive amounts of androgens. But what are androgens exactly? Here’s some additional information explaining how they’re produced and used, both in men and women.

September is Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) awareness month. PCOS is a common hormonal disorder that causes the ovaries to produce excessive amounts of androgens. Some symptoms of PCOS include overgrowth of coarse facial or body hair (hirsutism), acne, lack of ovulation, irregular/heavy menstrual cycles or absence of menstrual cycles, infertility, etc.

If you suspect that you may have PCOS, reach out to a health care provider to discuss your symptoms.

Our staff recently enjoyed our annual summer get together, where all of our families are invited to join and celebrate the work we do.
