See what patients are saying about Nurture Physical Therapy and Wellness:

I cannot recommend Dr Kara highly enough! I started seeing her during my pregnancy for pelvic floor issues and back pain, and I truly believe she was fundamental in making my pregnancy so much more enjoyable.

She’s not only incredibly knowledgeable and professional, but also kind, patient, and genuinely supportive. I always felt heard and never rushed, and that made a huge difference in my comfort and confidence.
Postpartum, she continued to be an essential part of my recovery. She helped me reconnect with my body and build strength in a way that felt safe and empowering.

What I absolutely loved about Dr Kara’s approach is that it is holistic. She will assess the entire picture instead of only focusing on one isolated symptom. For me, that is what made a difference knowing how interconnected our bodies are.

Seeing Dr Kara should be a requirement for any woman in pregnancy or postpartum (or any other stage of life, as a matter of fact).

Do you leak?
Do you p*e (a little or a lot) when you sneeze or when you laugh?
Do you have intense urgency?

I remember in high school having late night belly laughs with my girlfriends and totally p*eing my pants. We all thought this was hilarious, and now as a pelvic floor physical therapist I’m thinking I may have had some work to do to improve my leakage.

Check out the ways below we focus on treating bladder leakage and urgency:

- Organ Mobilization - If the bladder cannot expand well and is trying to fill but hitting something you could have urgency or leakage. Some of the things that could be in the way are the uterus, fascia (connective tissue) restrictions, ligamentous tension, tension in the urethra.

- Pelvic Floor Strength - The front of the pelvic floor is where the urethral opening lives. We can specifically target and strengthen these muscles to help close the opening to the urethra (external urethral sphincter) to prevent leakage.

- Address Bladder Irritants - Caffeine + acidic drinks and foods may irritate the lining of the bladder and cause increased urinary frequency

- Address Constipation - This causes increased pressure on the bladder.

Do you have any additional questions? Do you know how this pertains to your unique body? We are happy to chat and get your questions answered. Send me a DM or check out the link in bio.

Let’s chat about cardio. Some of us love it and others hate it. You could bike for 60 min, run for 30, elliptical for 15, or walk for 5 and all of it fills the cardio bucket. These are all great modes of exercise and help to bless our body with increased blood flow. This increase in blood flow helps to keep our organs, tissues, and muscles happy and healthy. Did you also know cardio exercise helps to prevent and relieve constipation? The body is so cool! More on that later.

Here are some keys to remember:
🦵🏼Even walking 5 min is beneficial!
🦵🏼Move with INTENTION
🦵🏼Keep a good pace
🦵🏼 BREATHE

All my best,
Dr. Kara

Have you ever wondered, “should I have pain during pregnancy?” The answer is NO. 🙅🏻‍♀️

Too many of us women suffer with mild, moderate, or severe pain during our pregnancies. We think that this is normal, or simply a part of the process with our changing body and growing abdomen. However, I am here to encourage you to seek out support for you! You matter, and your ability to go on a walk, do the dishes, play with your kids without pain matters.

Nurture Physical Therapy and Wellness is unique because we specialize in treating the pregnant moms body. We have advanced manual skills and corrective exercise specialties that allows us to take a unique perspective and evaluate you from head to toe. We work with the pelvic bones and the soft tissue - the muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia. We identify what needs our attention and then develop a plan to address these factors. We prescribe exercise that is both safe and effective for your unique body.

Our treatment sessions included:
✨In-Home, we come to you! (No need to worry about childcare!)
✨ 60 minute treatment sessions (Longer sessions means you need less, saving you time and money!)
✨Hands on manual treatment
✨Corrective Exercises
✨Childbirth Prep + Education

Did you know that the best way to help prevent or improve pelvic floor dysfunction is to strengthen your core? 🤯

There are two main groups of muscles of our core: the movers and stabilizers. The stabilizer layer consists of your pelvic floor and transverse abdominus.

The PELVIC FLOOR helps us with p*eing, pooping, sexual function, and provides support for our internal organs.

The TRANSVERSUS ABDOMINUS (TA) acts like a corset and helps us to lift pressure up and off of the pelvic floor. During pregnancy the TA becomes lengthened as your belly grows. We need to purposefully engage and strengthen this muscle during our daily activities.

Want to learn how to engage and strengthen your deep core?

TRY THIS:

Lying on your back with knees bent, inhale and exhale fully. Then engage the front and then back or pelvic floor to draw up and in (a kegel). Then picture yourself zipping up your lower core from your p***c bone to belly button. You should feel a gentle firmness in your lower abdomen.

Want to learn more? Reach out with questions! We have a free 15 minute phone consult available to get your questions answered. No strings attached!

All my best,

Dr. Kara
