What’s baby’s pelvic station, and why does it matter? Let’s dive in! 🌿
Baby’s pelvic station refers to their position in the pelvis, measured in terms of how far they have descended through the birth canal. It’s marked by numbers from -5 (when baby is still high and hasn’t engaged) to +5 (when baby is crowning).
Understanding your baby’s station can provide insight into how labor is progressing. However, it’s crucial to know that labor isn’t just about dilation; baby’s position plays a big role too! For instance, a baby at +1 or +2 station means they’ve moved deeper into the pelvis, getting closer to birth.
This knowledge is empowering because it helps us tailor our support during labor. If your baby is still high in the pelvis, certain positions, movement, and techniques can encourage them to move down. As your doula, I’ll guide you through different strategies to help optimize your baby’s position and keep labor progressing smoothly. Trust in your body, trust in your baby, and know that we’re in this together with you and your baby at the wheel.
