Dear MediLodge Families,

We are thrilled May has arrived & we have so many great things planned for this spring & summer for your loved ones.

We are kicking off May with the Mom's Garden Party Luncheon. We appreciate all of you, who have stepped up to make this a very special event. The delicious luncheon will be catered and each mom resident will receive a small gift. It's sure to be a beautiful & memorable event to honor our mothers & grandmothers.

The 1st full week in May is the annual National "Nurse" recognition & we have so much planned to make our 20 nurses feel appreciated. We ask that you remember the nurses who care for your family member this week. Next month we will honor the nurses' aides.

The 2nd week in May is the annual "National Skilled Nursing Care Celebration." The theme this year is "Moments in Bloom." We will be celebrating all Skilled Nursing Staff, Volunteers & Residents. Bringing attention to our dedicated Skilled Nursing Team & Volunteers. We will be highlighting the role of our Skilled Nursing Center & providing enjoyable & engaging activities for the residents. Some of the plans for this week include, carnival foods, blooming themed crafts for the residents, along with a blooming floral shopping trip & another special trip to see nature blooming at Meijer's Garden. We have also planned a few staff vs. residents competition for fun & excitement. And a fresh floral bar where the Skilled Nursing residents can build their own flower vase for their room. Also, we have a family photo activity that we hope our resident's families will help with. We will need a family photo of our residents who reside in the Skilled Nursing Care Center please. You can send the picture by email to the address below or bring it in for me to scan it & return it to you immediately. We will need these photos before Thursday 5/14. We hope every resident will be thrilled to see their family on the wall in BLOOM. This entire week is sure to be a great one.

New for this month is the Cancer Support Group that will meet the 3rd Monday of each month. This group is for any resident, family member, outside community who has experienced cancer or knows someone who has experienced cancer & wants support. Everyone is welcome.

Also, new for this month is the Garden Club. This club will focus on planting flowers & vegetables around the MediLodge Campus, as well as, harvesting the vegetables all summer.

As always, please join us for all the fun, excitement & opportunities of giving back. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Warmest,
Jane

The sound of a bat hitting a baseball is the heartbeat of America.

It was a perfect day at LMCU Ballpark—sunny skies, mild temperatures, the taste of hot dogs, and the excitement of being part of the Whitecaps’ victory! 🌭☀️

Baseball brings a special kind of nostalgia—a game filled with passion, childhood memories, and timeless legends that never truly fade.

Our residents truly had a “Grand Slam” day at the field! ⚾🎉

Sunday Afternoon Creativity 🌼

April is Volunteer Month, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the volunteers who support MediLodge of Grand Rapids residents. Last fall, Martha Nelson from Scrap Roots Canvas showcased her beautiful art at a weekend craft sale, where she was invited to bring her creativity to MediLodge.

This past Sunday, she spent the afternoon with our residents creating recycled vases from pill bottles, paired with handmade paper flowers. It was a beautiful and meaningful creative session enjoyed by all.

Thank you, Marti, for sharing your talent, creativity, and most importantly, your generous heart with our resident community. 💛

Creativity was in full bloom as we crafted beautiful paper flowers using coffee filters and watercolor paints 🌸 Each handmade bloom brought smiles and reminded us that where flowers bloom, so does hope.

💙✨ Volunteer Recognition Month ✨💙

April is Volunteer Recognition Month, and at MediLodge of Grand Rapids, we are honored to celebrate the incredible individuals who give so much of their time and heart to our community.

While we strive to show our appreciation all year long, we hope this small gesture of a gift bag serves as a token of our gratitude for all that our volunteers do. 💝

Our volunteers play a truly vital role—supporting spiritual growth, encouraging physical activity, sharing musical talents, building meaningful friendships, and strengthening social connections. They generously give their time and donations for special events and gatherings that bring residents and families together, creating a true sense of community.

Volunteering is a powerful act of service that changes lives, driven by passion rather than pay—and for that, we are endlessly thankful.

💛 Thank you to our volunteers—you are a true blessing! 💛

🐰🌷 Easter Celebration Highlights at MediLodge of Grand Rapids 🌷🐰

Our Easter celebration on Friday began with a beautiful and meaningful Good Friday service in the Chapel, thanks to our precious volunteers, Chaplain Bob Dennis, and the Redeemer Church team from Ada.

In the afternoon, the Barnyard Bunny Bash brought smiles to everyone’s faces! Residents enjoyed a variety of adorable baby animals from three different farms—thank you to Naretta for the babies, Jen from MI Horse Driving School for the gorgeous ponies, and Farm Animals On The Go for bunnies, chicks, ducklings, and a baby lamb. Lovely Easter music was provided by our talented vocalist and pianist, Elle. 🎶🐣

Our residents also enjoyed a delicious spread of food and treats, from boiled pig eggs on salami, chocolate mice on cheese, Peter Rabbit’s garden, bumblebee deviled eggs, farm cupcakes, carrot snack bags, costumed characters, and so much more! Special thanks to volunteers Jayne Chase and her family—Grace, Cindy, Karen, Sue, and Cutler—for helping make this event spectacular.

We are grateful to Jess from Corewell Health and Rachel Rooks from Faith Hospice for donating candy, cookies, and fruit for the egg hunt. A big shoutout to the Rolison family teens and the Forest Hills Elementary and High School art classes for the perfect banners and props.

And of course, Lela in Admissions generously added her MediLodge budget on top of the activities budget to make this celebration possible. Residents commented that they can’t imagine how we’ll top this party—it truly takes a village to create something this special.

Easter is a time for reflection, faith, and new beginnings. The baby animals remind us of innocence and wonder, encouraging us to find beauty in every moment, especially during springtime.

We hope your Easter was meaningful and joyful—and that the happiness carries throughout the year. 💛
