Theranostics is like working in the ice business without a freezer. 🧊

The drugs we use to diagnose and treat patients are in a constant state of decay. They have what’s called a half-life. If a drug has a half-life of 6 hours, that means it loses half of its activity after 6 hours. Some drugs have a half-life of only minutes!

That’s why having a radiopharmacy at BAMF is so important. When drugs lose their radioactivity rapidly, proximity matters.

Who knew something so small could deliver such powerful results!

FDG is used in PET scans to detect nearly every type of cancer. But what is FDG? It’s radioactive sugar 🤯

A typical FDG PET scan contains only a few micrograms of glucose (sugar). For comparison, the teaspoon of sugar you add to your coffee contains millions of micrograms.

A spoonful of sugar might help the medicine go down—but in PET imaging, just a trace of sugar helps us hunt down cancer.🍭

Confusing right? 🥴

So many different words, terms, and acronyms to describe the same thing—the therapy we offer at BAMF. So what is it REALLY?

It’s a treatment delivered through an IV injection that circulates the body, binds to specific receptors on diseased cells, and delivers radiation to diseased cells over a short range, typically millimeters or less.

It’s precise. It’s targeted. And minimizes damage to healthy cells.

What do we call it? LIFESAVING.
