Today, I had the honor of participating in the Out of the Darkness Walk at Hawk Island Park—and what an unforgettable experience it was.

From the heartfelt opening and closing ceremonies to the incredible lineup of vendors and support organizations, the entire event was filled with compassion, connection, and purpose. It was both moving and inspiring to see so many people come together in support of mental health awareness and su***de prevention.

Whether you were walking for yourself, for a loved one, or to support the community, there was a shared sense of hope and healing that filled the park. I’m truly grateful to have been part of such a touching and impactful day.

Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who showed up to make a difference. You are not alone. Together, we walk out of the darkness. 💙🕊️

🏅 The Psychology Behind High School Sports Tryouts 🧠

Tryouts aren't just a test of athletic skill—they're a mental game too.

High school athletes face pressure, nerves, and self-doubt. It’s normal. But remember:

✅ Nerves mean you care—breathe, focus, and trust your prep.
✅ Your worth isn’t tied to a roster spot. A cut doesn’t define you.
✅ Play for you. Love of the game fuels long-term growth.
✅ Growth > perfection. You’re not “bad”—you’re learning.
✅ Don’t compare. Your journey is your own.

Whether you make the team or not, show up proud. Every tryout is a step forward. 🏃‍♂️🔥

Good luck to all the athletes trying out for High School sports Monday!

If you're looking for a counselor to focus on any of these items feel free to reach out.

Love this analogy!

Love this analogy!

I LOVE THIS ANALOGY:
You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.
Why did you spill the coffee?
“Because someone bumped into me!!!”
Wrong answer.
You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.
Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.
Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.
Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled.
So we have to ask ourselves... “what’s in my cup?” When life gets tough, what spills over?
Joy, gratitude, peace and humility?
Anger, bitterness, victim mentality and quitting tendencies?
Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it.
Today let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation, resilience, positivity; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.

We recognize and celebrate Juneteenth!

We recognize and celebrate Juneteenth!

Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a powerful moment in American history that marks the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in 1865 - more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

As a therapy provider, we recognize that the legacy of slavery and racial injustice continues to impact the mental health and well-being of Black individuals and communities. Juneteenth is not just a celebration of freedom, but also a call to honor the resilience, courage, and healing journey of Black Americans.

This Juneteenth, we stand in solidarity with our Black clients, colleagues, and communities. We are committed to providing culturally responsive care, amplifying Black voices, and creating safe spaces for healing, empowerment, and rest.
