Our Story
For most families, navigating through the postpartum period can be both challenging and overwhelming. A woman faces a number of physical, social, and physiological changes during this time. The postpartum doula’s job is to come into the home to "mother the mother" as she adapts to her new identity. By nurturing the mother and supporting her physical and emotional needs, she is then better equipped to nurture and bond with her newborn. The postpartum doula offers professional, non-judgmental support, companionship and evidence based information in several areas. She is there to assist with the family’s needs during the first 3 months of transition. Her services include but are not limited to: helping mom/partner/family process the birth story, recovery from pregnancy and birth, adjusting after an adoption or surrogate, bottle and breastfeeding support, basic newborn care and development, parent/infant bonding skills, sibling care and adjustment, supporting mom’s spouse/partner, allow mom time for self care, support for mothers with perinatal mood disorder, overnight care, light housework and organization, and simple meal prep. The postpartum doula also takes on an educational role in the household and can make referrals and recommendations to the family when necessary.
