As part of our continued work on medication assisted recovery, Grand Itasca clinic leaders, Andrea Carter and Miranda Ortloff, along with Itasca County Sheriff Joe Dasovich and Sergeant Dave Frechette, met with industry leaders in Illinois last week to learn more about implementation of medication assisted recovery within a correctional framework.

We look forward to continuing to partner with Itasca County on best practices for this important work!

Dr. Daniel McGuire grew up in Grand Rapids and is honored to provide high-quality surgical care to the people of his hometown and the surrounding communities. After attending medical school in Duluth, he completed a general surgery residency at Hennepin County in Minneapolis. Returning home is both exciting and humbling, and he is dedicated to serving the community with compassion and excellence. With a commitment to delivering the best possible experience, he strives to ensure every patient receives exceptional care in every aspect of their treatment.

Our team is growing! Introducing three new Family Medicine providers:

Born and raised in the Grand Rapids area, Micayla Lessard, MD will be providing obstetrical care in addition to primary care. Her goal in medicine is to build strong collaborative relationships with patients that allow her to provide robust care across the lifespan.

Danielle Smestad, NP is eagerly returning to Grand Itasca. She is committed to addressing the health disparities that exist in rural communities with limited resources. She believes in collaborating closely with patients to empower them to achieve their health goals.

What Cindy Swanholm, MD loves most about practicing Family Medicine is getting to meet people at all stages of life and getting to know each of her patients and their family members individually.

Grand Itasca is offering a 70-hour Part-Time Fall Health Care Pathways Internship from October 1 - January 15.

This unpaid internship is designed to give students exposure to the broad range of careers available in health care. The internship is open to individuals who are seniors in high school and are currently enrolled in a Health Care Career Pathway Program.
