We’re proud to celebrate a true community win at Yanmar Arena! 🏒

Our new athletic training space is the result of an incredible shared effort between the City of Grand Rapids MN,Arrowhead Medical , Grand Itasca Sports Medicine, and Grand Itasca Foundation.

Grand Itasca athletic trainers provide rinkside support for the Grand Rapids boys and Grand Rapids-Greenway girls hockey programs and this new space means these athletes receive the care they need right on-site at Yanmar Arena. The space was made available by the City of Grand Rapids, which operates the arena, and Arrowhead stepped up to help outfit the space, donating some of the equipment and providing the rest at cost. Grand Itasca Foundation continues to support the Sports Medicine program with supplies, programming and more, ensuring our athletic trainers are equipped to care for local high school and college athletes!

When community partners come together, our athletes benefit. This space will support safer play, faster recovery, and stronger futures, on and off the ice. 💙

Last week we kicked off our Break the Stigma Speaker Series with an incredibly powerful and hopeful message from Chief Dave Suckling.

Chief Suckling shared his experience serving as an officer in New Hampshire during a time when fentanyl overdoses were devastating his community. After witnessing too many lives lost, he made it his mission to approach substance use disorder differently.

He helped lead his town to become a recovery-friendly community and implemented an officer-assisted path to treatment by creating direct pathways for individuals struggling with substance use disorder to access care instead of cycling through the criminal justice system.
The result? Not a single overdose death in over six years.

We were also honored to have Itasca County Sheriff's Office, Joe Dasovich, and City of Grand Rapids MN Police Chief of Police, Andy Morgan, in attendance, sharing how our local law enforcement agencies are working to support recovery efforts right here in our own communities.

Join us for our next Break the Stigma event on March 12th at the Reif Performing Arts Center. We’ll hear from Katy Larson, a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, who is in recovery herself and works at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in Center City, MN.

Last week, Grand Itasca’s Community Health Coordinator, Kelly Campbell, attended a community support event in Ball Club alongside Minnesota North College nursing students.

The students provided blood pressure checks, glucose screenings, and mental health screenings to community members, helping make health services accessible in a welcoming, supportive space.

This event was created to support the Leech Lake community by bringing multiple resources together in one place. Attendees were able to connect with job opportunities, tribal ID renewals, educational resources, health screenings, and more.

We’re grateful to be part of events that strengthen community connections and expand access to care. 💚

44,405 books 📚
That’s how many high-quality books have been distributed at Grand Itasca to families over the past 19 years, including 2,521 books just last year! 📚

At every well-child visit, we’re not just checking growth charts. We’re helping build school readiness, language skills, and strong parent-child bonds through shared reading.

The books are made possible by the Reach Out and Read Minnesota program and funding from Grand Itasca Volunteer Services.
