Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan and University of Michigan Health-West Announce Strategic Partnership and Plans for Joint Orthopaedic Surgery Center
Wyoming, MI – Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan (OAM) and University of Michigan Health-West (UMHW) are pleased to announce a strategic partnership to expand access to advanced orthopaedic surgical care across West Michigan. As part of this collaboration, the organizations will jointly develop a state-of-the-art Orthopaedic Ambulatory Surgery Center, expected to welcome its first patients in 2027 in Wyoming, MI.
This new venture leverages the specialized surgical expertise of OAM with UMHW’s integrated, patient-centered care model to establish a regional destination for high-quality outpatient orthopaedic surgery. The partnership reflects both organizations’ shared commitment to innovation, clinical excellence, and delivering value-based care.
As part of the development, OAM is proud to announce that this campus will feature a new office for OAM physicians, along with an OAM Now Orthopedic Urgent Care location. The campus will also include OAM’s Occupational Therapy (Hand to Shoulder Therapy) and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) departments. OAM’s Southwest Physical Therapy office will continue to operate at its current location at 5651 Byron Center Ave SW.
“OAM is thrilled to return to the Southwest side of town.” said Lisa Pearson, OAM’s Chief Operating Officer. “This is one of the most vibrant and rapidly growing communities in the region. This area has long been a top demographic for our practice, and we are proud to expand our presence here. We are bringing OAM’s top quality physician care to where our patients live, to provide them with the high-quality care that they deserve, closer to home.”
Designed by Kalamazoo-based architectural firm Eckert Wordell, the new facility will feature eight fully equipped operating rooms, two minor procedure rooms, and infrastructure to accommodate future growth with two additional operating rooms. The facility will support a wide range of orthopaedic procedures, including joint replacements, spine surgery, arthroscopy, hand surgery, foot and ankle surgery and sports medicine. The facility will also accommodate 23-hour stays, ensuring safe and effective recovery for patients.
The construction of the project is being managed by The Cornerstone Companies, Inc., a healthcare-focused real estate and construction firm headquartered in Indiana with a strong national track record in ambulatory surgery development.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to transforming how care is delivered,” said Margaret Dimond, president of UM Health Regional Network. “By bringing together the strengths of OAM and UM Health-West, we are improving access to high-quality orthopedic services and delivering better value for our patients.”
Highlights of the planned Orthopaedic Ambulatory Surgery Center include:
• Eight Operating Rooms with advanced surgical and imaging technology
• Comprehensive Orthopaedic Services across all major subspecialties
• Collaborative Care Teams integrating the talent and experience of both OAM and UMHW
