ADHD myth: The best treatment for ADHD are stimulant meds ❌

💡 ADHD treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all. There’s more than one path forward.

👉 In the medication category for ADHD, there are two types: stimulants *and* non-stimulants.

1️⃣ Stimulants are the most commonly prescribed and often work by affecting dopamine and/or norepinephrine activity in the brain — neurotransmitters linked to focus, motivation, and attention.
2️⃣ Non-stimulants work through different mechanisms, often affecting norepinephrine or related pathways, and they’re especially helpful for those who don’t tolerate stimulants well, have co-occurring conditions, or long-acting, once-daily options are available.

👉 Both types have been shown in studies to help manage ADHD symptoms by targeting brain chemicals involved in attention, focus, and impulse control.

How are your dopamine levels? Chances are, they’re lower than average (we have that in common), working against us and the household chores we can’t seem to tackle. Let’s break it down 👇👇👇
ADHD brains naturally have lower baseline levels of dopamine, the “motivation and reward” neurotransmitter, making it harder than usual to feel satisfied by routine or mundane tasks. This is especially true when the reward for a given task is delayed. But when something is new and unpredictable, it triggers a dopamine release, giving the ADHD brain the stimulation it craves. Motivation.
Incorporate timers to see how much you can get done in a set amount of time. Create a points & rewards system where you earn points for each task and redeem them for something satisfying (☕️🤳🏻📺). Use your favorite music to create time frames around tasks (e.g., how much laundry can you fold before the song ends?). Compete with a friend, partner, or yourself to see who can finish something faster.

📖 Definition: fewer choices, less stress, more brain power for the things you’d *rather* be doing.
The ADHD brain is naturally more prone to burnout. The culprit? Decision fatigue, meaning that routine or repetitive tasks are often delayed or forgotten altogether. So “automating” is a kind of magic where important things just happen — without the need for willpower. Things like setting up auto-pay for recurring bills and subscriptions 💳 scheduling repetitive calendar events or phone reminders for meds, appointments, and chores ⏰utilizing “subscribe & save” options for household essentials 🛒 and simplifying outfit choices with a capsule wardrobe 👕
Go ahead.
