While we are attempting to navigate this difficult time everyone’s Emotional well-being weighs heavy in my thoughts! I want to assure everyone that no matter how lonely you feel, please know that you are NOT alone!

The human condition wasn’t meant to be confined. That’s the reason it’s used as a punitive measure. Anxiety, Depression, Suicidal thoughts and increased Substance abuse will be at an all time high. No matter what the media calls it, we are being told to isolate.

While I understand the Medical reasons of safety and prevention, the Mental Health condition is not being given enough consideration. This past Week we were told we are no longer able to buy flowers or plants or soil to garden. They are considered non-essential. Very little is more cathartic than being able to see nature’s beauty and have a hand in creating it. My hope is that this limitation is reconsidered.

My thoughts go to my Peers who are working on the crisis lines as I did many years ago. More than ever we need to send the message that no one is alone and we are here to offer support and listen and make a plan.

Even within the confines of these restrictions, we are able to help you make a plan. Please reach out if you need affirmation that you’re not alone. A conversation to vent, cry, and make a plan to reset will make all the difference in how you navigate your day.

Please, Please feel free to reach out. We have the rest of April and possibly part of May left to ride this out. That can be critically too long when our fears are loud in our head and we have no way to speak to them.

It’s a New Year and in this New Year it’s important to continue to be mindful of our Mental Health. New Years resolutions are positive in theory but often come with unnecessary anxt if we’re unable to fulfill them and tend to add to the “winter blues”. I say, set your standard however high you’d like but only with the expectation of meeting it somewhere in the middle. Do what you can. There is little to no room for “should’ve’s and would’ve’s in our lives.

If we live our lives and make our choices based on “the path of least regret”, what does that look like?

So many of us carry on in our daily routine trying to ignore our “emotional flu”.
I define the emotional flu as the great weight of stress, anxiety, feelings of helplessness combined with unresolved issues that we continuously carry but try to push down or minimize in our lives. Often, this is because we don’t think we have have the time, tools or resolve to deal with them.

I would like to offer you Hope this year in your ability to navigate your issues and find Peace in your life. Often times this power comes through simply slowing down and recognizing you have more “say” in your life than you realize. The next step is making a plan to take action on making the changes you need.

This past year I have sat with my patients (or my people, as I like to call them) and have watched them find Light and Hope in their world by exercising great courage, humility and determination they didn’t know they had. It is a continuous, difficult process to work through those hard stories but the most important thing to recognize is that they’re doing it. And, they’re moving forward with strength they’ve only just realized they had through the therapeutic process.

It is a humbling privilege to watch people “Dare themselves” to make the changes they want to see! I look SO forward to continue to support the stories I’ve been walking with, as well as new stories that find their way to me this year.

Please join me in supporting my most personal mission of replacing Hurt with HOPE!! Do this through talking about and encouraging everyone in your world to seek professional emotional support.
