When a 60-year-old Kent County resident with an above-the-knee amputation prepared for knee surgery, he asked Disability Advocates of Kent County if there was a safer alternative to his wooden shower stool. A home assessment by an occupational therapist led to the addition of a variety of supports, which enabled him to bathe safely, recover at home, and ultimately avoid facility placement.

That one question set a powerful collaboration into motion, one that demonstrates the strength of the aging services network. The Kent County Senior Millage (KCSM) provides person-centered care and resources for Kent County older adults, promoting independence and quality of life through a network of community partners. KCSM services are available to adults aged 60+ who are residents of Kent County. View available services for all 9 counties in our region at www.aaawm.org/services.
