The opioid crisis is a public health emergency, but there is a way forward: harm reduction. Instead of punishment and stigma, we need to utilize strategies that save lives and support people, *no matter where they are in their journey*.
Harm reduction works because it meets people where they are without judgment. Naloxone, syringe access, and safer use education prevent overdose deaths and reduce the spread of disease. These services also create opportunities for connection - helping people access healthcare, housing, and support when theyβre ready. Recovery isnβt one-size-fits-all, and harm reduction ensures people have the tools they need to stay alive and make informed choices.
Most importantly, harm reduction treats people with dignity. Everyone deserves safety, respect, autonomy, and the chance to live another day. The opioid crisis isnβt just about drugs - itβs about your community members' health, social justice, and human rights.
