The new sign has arrived and is scheduled to be installed this afternoon!

It's a process. Next up is the electrical, landscaping, and re-working the underground sprinkling due to the township's requirement of relocating the sign.

Our thanks to Recovery Solutions Restoration & Construction for coordinating all of the details and to Midwest Sign Company for creating the new sign!

Several people have been asking about our sign recently, as it's still in dis-repair and, quite honestly, a bit of an eyesore and an embarrassment.

Last January, a careless driver left the snowy roadway and struck the sign, completely destroying it. What was thought to be a simple process of replacement, turned out to be very complicated due to the updated zoning rules and regulations of Gaines Township.

The good news is that the new sign is in the final stages of production and will hopefully be placed in the near future. Due to the township's requirements, it will be located closer to the middle of our front yard and will be smaller than our previous sign, but at least we'll have a presentable looking sign once again.

We are happy for Laurie, but sad for us.... after 25 years of dedicated service, Laurie is retiring.

Laurie made history when she was hired as the funeral home's first administrative assistant in October, 1999. She has served the funeral home, the community, and numerous families with great care and compassion for more than 25 years, paying attention to all of the many details that take place behind the scenes.

Laurie - THANK YOU for all you've done! You will be greatly missed!

An open house honoring Laurie is planned for Saturday, June 7, from 6 - 8 PM in the Stroo Funeral Home Community Room. All are welcome to attend. (The invitation says it's a surprise, but it is no longer a surprise.)

The Stroo Funeral Home sign was officially taken out of service recently when a driver, going too fast for conditions on the snowy roads, lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and struck the sign. While we're grateful the driver was not hurt, the sign didn't fare as well. It is a total loss. Now we go through the insurance claim process and the work of replacement. Be on the lookout for a new sign in the relatively near future (we hope, anyway!).

The Michigan Funeral Directors Association hosted its 145th annual convention in Port Huron, MI this week. Two of our licensed funeral directors were honored for their years of service: John Stroo for 60 years and Bob Stroo for 25 years.

There were many people recognized for their years of service, but John and Bob had the distinction of being the only father - son honorees.

We at Stroo Funeral Home are grateful to work with these men and wish them all the best as they continue to serve.

Happy Administrative Professionals Week to our Mother-Daughter duo, Laurie and Lisa!

Laurie has been with the funeral home since October, 1999, and Lisa joined the staff in March, 2021. Together they are the friendly and helpful voices heard when people call the Stroo Funeral Home office.

We would be lost without them! They provide a certain joy in an atmosphere that can often be stressful and sad. Not only do they carry out so many of the administrative duties of the funeral home, they also provide loving and caring help to people in need when they call or stop in the office. They wear many different hats and can often be found helping in several different ways. From obituary writers to sound technicians to floral arrangers to luncheon assistants to video makers to gardeners who keep the grounds looking nice, no two days are exactly the same for them.

Laurie and Lisa - we appreciate all that you do!
