“Only boys can have ADHD” 😕❓

This myth still shows up way too often… and it’s hurting girls who are struggling silently.

ADHD doesn’t always look like hyperactivity or “acting out.” For many girls, it looks like overthinking everything, forgetting assignments, zoning out in class, feeling anxious, or trying *really* hard to hold it all together.

Instead of getting support, they’re often labeled as “dramatic,” “too sensitive,” or “attention-seeking.” Meanwhile, they’re masking, overwhelmed, and wondering why things feel harder for them than everyone else.

Girls with ADHD deserve to be heard, understood, and supported—not overlooked. 💛

If something feels off, trust that instinct. Ask questions. Listen closely. Early support can make a world of difference in confidence, school, and emotional well-being.

Our clinicians are here to help your child build skills, confidence, and understanding around ADHD.

Therapist at heart, artist in theory 👩‍🎨

Our clinicians has an amazing time at learning how to make "roundish" shaped pottery 😅

To celebrate Social Worker Month, and a great excuse to get out of the office, we all tried out a new hobby! We all had a blast and felt so welcomed by The Clayground team.

As we are moving through Women's History Month, we are outlining important conversations that we need to have.

Women and those of us that present femme often have harmful experiences within the health care systems as we have mentioned earlier this month.

Black Women are experiencing significantly higher maternal mortality rates compared to their counterparts. These numbers are scary and are often influenced by racism and sexism within these systems.

Having these important conversations can help raise awareness for these health disparities. As we continue to raise awareness for Women's History Month, we encourage having important conversations. Even if they may be hard to hear. That is how we can make a difference.

PolicycenterMMH.org offers different ways to raise awareness and get involved with advocating for Black Women in healthcare.

We currently have openings for new clients! Visit us at www.balancedlifegr.com!

Sure, the space is comfy… but the real work? That follows you everywhere — even to those slightly intimidating medical appointments.

And let’s be real: not all appointments feel equal. Many of us who present as women, have experienced being dismissed, misdiagnosed, or not fully heard. That stuff sticks with you. It can make speaking up feel… hard.

But remember those self-advocacy skills we’ve been practicing? Yeah — they’re not just for therapy sessions 😅

✨ Write things out ahead of time?
→ Bring your symptom list + questions like it’s your script.

✨ Practicing asking for support?
→ Bring a support person to your appointment. You don’t have to do it solo.

Therapy isn’t just about what happens in the room — it’s about building skills for real life, even in the scary, sterile, “why is it always so cold in here” medical world.

You’ve got more tools than you think. 💪

Of course we all know Ashley… but do you know what she’s actually up to with clients? 🔎

Ashley is out here doing incredible work supporting women through:
✨ Postpartum Mood Disorders
✨ Birth trauma
✨ Women navigating a late ADHD diagnosis

These are experiences that aren’t talked about nearly enough—and going through them alone can feel overwhelming. Ashley brings so much compassion, dedication, and care to every client she works with, and it’s truly amazing to witness. 💛

Spring is slowly arriving! 🌸☔🐛

As exciting as it can be, spring can be a time where some of us notice a shift in mental health. This can look like irritability, restlessness, anxiety, depression, or sleep issues.

⁉How can this be? ⁉

Let's think about all the changes that come with spring:

Allergies to all those new plants growing🤧
Sensory changes with clothing or sweating more 😓
Change in schedule and routine 📅
High expectations 💹

All of these can add pressure, become overwhelming, or even feel unmanageable. This is why we may see an increase in manic moods, irritability, or resistance to change.

This spring give yourself or your loved ones some grace as we all navigate this transition.

Is it PMDD or PMS⁉

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) impacts a lower percentage of menstruators and comes with severe symptoms that are not often discussed. This can include a significant emotional and mental shift causing apathy, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, and brain fog. Often times we might not realize how severe our symptoms are until we compare the two.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is what majority of menstruators experience and often what PMDD gets confused for. PMS presents as mild symptoms of tiredness, bloating, aches, and tension. There is typically not a drastic shift in emotions or behaviors that are tied to PMDD.

Due to the lack of centering menstruators, the medical field and our society can be behind on what the difference between these two can look like. This lack of understanding can be dangerous for those of us that have PMDD but do not know it or cannot get treatment for it. The symptoms are serious and real, it does not mean we are broken or "are being dramatic". You are not alone and there are resources here for you!
