As someone who was directly affected by this, I encourage everyone to write into the FTC. These clauses trap physicians in jobs, forcing them to either settle for whatever their employers do to them, or uproot their families and abandon their patients. FTC link below:

Good for you, bad for hospitals

Today is my birthday. This staff brought donuts! We had a power outage. I saw a few patients via headlight. Because our exam chairs didn’t work (lack of power), I almost did an urgent procedure with the patient laying down on my partner’s mini couch. 

Thankfully, the power came back on and to the relief of my staff, we could do the urgent procedure in an appropriate chair.

Unfortunately, the power outage seemed to disable the elevator to our office. I saw two patients, with their permission, in the building lobby. They drove up in a snowstorm, couldn’t do stairs, and needed to be seen, so we got it done.

I had one patient who was stranded in the office because of the elevator issue. While waiting to see if it would be repaired, I noticed another patient had a Grand Rapids Fire Department hat! Per his suggestion, we called 911, and the FD came over to carry my wheelchair bound patient down the stairs.

It was a TWO doughnut day 🍩🍩😂

I spent the afternoon in my son’s class (and the two preceding classes) helping with cow eye dissections. I had a lot of fun, but after about 70 kids over 3 hours, I have a new appreciation for grade school teachers, and desire for a drink 😂. Happy Friday!
